EuroPride 2024 was hosted in Thessaloniki, Greece, from June 21 to June 29, 2024. This event marked the return of the annual EuroPride to Thessaloniki, which was originally scheduled to host in 2020 but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] The event consisted of a Human Rights Conference, many types of entertainment such as concerts and plays, and culminated in a Pride Parade at the end.[2]

Organization

[edit]

Thessaloniki Pride organized the event, the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization and the municipality of Thessaloniki supported this effort.[2]

Many organizations and activists from Europe participated in the event, some participating in the discussions within the Human Rights Conference.[3]

Human Rights Conference

[edit]

The event included the Human Rights Conference, which was held in a building in the Aristotelous Square.[4] Among the speakers in the conference were activists, politicians, experts, academics, who all gave speeches in regards to how they envisioned LGBT liberation.

In the panel "Survival of European Civil Society in a Shrinking and Hostile Environment",[5] activists from countries in which the anti-gender movement was a primary threat against civil society, talked about persevering in the context of this situation.[6]

Fair at the YMCA Park

[edit]

In the YMCA Park near the conference, there were many stands put up by organisations, parties, and groups.[7]

Pride Parade

[edit]

The Pride Parade took place on the 29th of June. The route started from YMCA Park, went along the Tsimiski, took a turn at Venizelou, went back from the Nikis Avenue, passing the White Tower and ended near the Alexander the Great Statue.[8]
