Interests
[edit]Mountain biking
I started mountain biking a few years ago after moving to Durango, Colorado. I'm not especially good at it, but I still can't get enough of it. What I lack in skill, I try to compensate for with conditioning. Riding here in Durango, you get to ride with a lot of nationally-ranked riders. I'm always amazed at how easy they make difficult technical sections look.
Fitness training
I started running in high school as part of the wrestling program, and have been interested in fitness exercises ever since. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I went in overdrive work mode (80-100 hours a week) for a few years. Fast food and no exercise took its expected course: Gained over 50 pounds of flab and was really out of shape. One day my sister took a photo of me in her pool. I really looked bad! So I got to work. The payoff was a part as a fitness model in a promotional video that was shot here in town.
Origins debate
Raised as a fundamentalist Christian, I was taught to believe that the Bible's origins stories were meant to be taken literally. But as an avid science buff, I soon realized that it just didn't match with the physical evidence. Most of my immediate relatives are still Bible literalists and this has led to numerous discussions about the meaning of the Bible stories. Are they literally true, allegories to teach man how to relate to God, or simply ancient mythology? The fruits of these discussions turned into an origins website.
Trivia
Another one of those simple interests that got out of control. I started a database of trivia back in 1989. It then became a DOS-based program, and has now become a website. I spend way too much time on it, but I can't help myself.
Wikipedia
Still just getting my feet wet in the Wikipedia environment, so I'm sure I'll annoy a few people on the way. Please accept my apologies in advance. I have contributed minor corrections (typos, incorrect dates, removal of dead links, etc.) to about a dozen articles so far, but I'm just getting started. I plan to contribute some full articles in the near future, probably something on origins and fitness.
Work
[edit]I tend change job/careers every so often, so I had a few. Full-time professional magician, nuclear power plant operator (U.S. Navy), computer technician, network administrator, college instructor, software engineer.
Personal
[edit]Born in 1961 and raised in southern Louisiana (no I'm not Cajun). No kids and never been married, but hope to some day (hmmm, make a note; better get to work on that).
