June Eastwood is an American middle-distance and distance runner. In 2019, she became the first openly transgender woman NCAA Division I athlete. She is the second publicly documented transgender athlete to compete in NCAA D1, after Schuyler Bailar in men's swimming, and she is the second transgender athlete to compete in an NCAA sport of athletics discipline, after Cece Telfer in Division II women's track and field.

Early life

June grew up in Belgrade, Montana and attended school there, telling the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that she first began to question her gender in elementary school.^[1] She competed on the men's cross country and track teams at Belgrade High School from 2011 to 2015 and set school records at 800 m, 1600 m, and 3200 m.^[2] June won the Montana state title in the outdoor 1600m as a junior, and as a senior she was state champion in cross country and the outdoor 800m, 1600m, and 3200m events.^[3] Her training style was characterized as high mileage, running about 70 miles per week throughout high school.^[4]
