ITTecWriterA is a 63 year old, semi-retired astronomer/physicist/technical writer and general geek. I love to learn and write about technical, scientific and musical topics.

Once there was an Indian astrophysicist named Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar[1] who also loved to learn things. He would study a subject until he felt he knew all there was to know about that subject. Then he would write a book about the subject. I like to think that I am doing more or less the same thing - on a much smaller scale of course. With this in mind I am trying to learn as much as possible about the the Wikipedia subjects I am interested in.

In addition to my work in the Wikipedia I have a wiki of my own [2] on Wikispaces. This wiki is dedicated to technical writers and contains many of the details I have learned during my years of writing.

In doing my research I rely heavily on the "Lone Writer" discussion group. This group - part of the STC or Society of Technical Communicators [3] - is composed of technical writers with years of experience in diverse backgrounds. The group provides a pool of writers I can turn to when I have a question. I will try hard to point out the Lone Writers who helped me to find the information I report.

Finally, I have more than 20 years of experience in the IT world. I was using Gopher and FTP before the World Wide Web existed. I am knowledgeable about Microsoft .NET framework, SQL, PHP, ASP, JAVA and HTML.

I have a BS in Physics and have studied physics and astronomy in graduate school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I have completed many graduate courses in Professional Writing at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, as well as courses in creative writing and editing at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, (see my writing wiki: http://timswritingwiki.wikispaces.com/).

After taking a "Tall Ship" tour of Boston Harbor in the fall of 2013, I have taken an interest in islands, my favorite of course is the "Big Island" of Hawaii. I am joining the WikiPedia:WikiProject Islands and hope to research some of the inland river islands of the United States, particularly those os the Ohio and Tennessee river basins. I hope to start with Neville Island, in the Ohio River near Pittsburgh.

Please feel free to contact me about errors and omissions I have commited, or just to engage in some lively conversation.
