Hakainde Hichilema assumed office as President of Zambia on 24 August 2021. The President has the authority to nominate members of the National Assembly to make up his Cabinet.[1] Hichilema made his first appointment in the Ministry of Finance on 27 August 2021.[2] The full Cabinet of 24 Ministers was unveiled on 8 September 2021.[3]

(2) (d) of The Constitution of Zambia empowers the President to establish, merge and dissolve Government Ministries and Departments. Their for the Ministry of Gender and Ministry of Religious Affairs have been dissolved and

[edit]On 16 August 2021, it was announced that UPND Hakainde Hichilema defeated the incumbent president, Edgar Lungu, in the 2021 presidential election. Hakainde Hichilema received 59% of the vote compared to Lungu's 38.71% of the votes, with 50+1% of the votes needed to win the presidency. He assumed office on 24 August 2021

Vice President
[edit]Mutale Nalumango was elected vice president of Zambia, receiving 59% of the vote, compared to the incumbent vice president, Inonge Wina, who received 38.71% of the votes. The vice president does not serve at the president's pleasure. Having assumed office on 24 August 2021, she is the second female vice president of Zambia.
