Orville Tiamson is a Filipino painter, musician, and transmedia artist from Angono, Rizal, Philippines which is also known as the "Arts Capital of the Philippines". [1]
Early Life
[edit]Tiamson was born in Angono, Rizal, the son of Dominador Tiamson, a traditional painter, and a musically-inclined mother.[1] Having born and raised in the Arts Capital of the Philippines, home of some of the Philippines' renowned talents and National Artists such as Botong Francisco for visual arts and Lucio D. San Pedro for music[2] , Tiamson soon discovered his passion in arts and music. Although he had no proper training during his childhood years, Tiamson would paint already as early as six years old and would usually doodle instead of write his lectures in school.[3] He would often relate his love for music with his paintings.
Tiamson attended University of Santo Tomas, majoring in Painting. During his third-year college painting competition, however, his father passed away. The untimely death of his father did not stop him from joining art competitions. He joined several painting contests during his college years but it was the ASEAN painting competition that paved his way to compete in an international level and represent the Philippines, granting him an ASEAN scholarship in 1987. Soon after the ASEAN art competition, Tiamson received offers for different art group shows from several artists throughout the country.[3]
Career
[edit]After his ASEAN scholarship days, Tiamson collaborated with the Manila Art Circle of the Cultural of the Philippines.[3]
Through the musical influence from his mother, Tiamson is able to blend his music with some of his art pieces and create a set of illusory imageries intended to capture the audience’s collective mind. He is best known for his abstract, cubism, avant-garde, and new age arts using acrylics, oil paintings, or mixed media. However, his early paintings were heavily influenced by Vicente Manansala, a renowned Filipino cubist painter and illustrator.[1] Tiamson's early paintings usually depict the prevailing Filipino setting seen in public markets, streets, and barrios. Just like any other artist, Tiamson had to reinvent his style. From cubism, Tiamson soon altered his style by using bended lines methodically using an abstract approach. He would usually apply vibrant and brilliant colors.
Aside from being a multi-talented visual artist, Tiamson would also compose music during his spare time. His musical icons include Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and many other notable classic rock bands usually from the 70s-80s.[3]
Today, Tiamson still continues to produce exceptional art pieces. His art collections are exhibited in his studio in Angono, Rizal, called the Tiamson Art Gallery.[4] Also displayed in his studio are his musical instruments, where his band would practice. Along with other fellow artists, Tiamson would usually conduct painting sessions in the Art Lab.[3]

[edit]In 2014, through ABS-CBN’s high-rated primetime teleserye, "Got to Believe", starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Tiamson was able to showcase his talent and artworks by appearing as a painter in some episodes of the series.[5]
