Team changes
[edit]AlphaTauri rebranded as RB and relocated the aerodynamics operations of the team to Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom amidst a management restructure.
Driver changes
[edit]Following the end of the 2024 São Paulo Grand Prix, Lando Norris who was under contract to McLaren until the end of the 2027 season, announced that he would take a sabbatical from the sport. Norris was replaced by 2022 Formula 2 Champion Oscar Piastri.
Lewis Hamilton retired at the end of the 2024 after eighteen seasons. His place at Mercedes was taken over by Max Verstappen, who left Red Bull Racing after spending nine seasons with the team, despite having a contract to drive at the team until the 2028 season.
Daniel Ricciardo left McLaren after four seasons, moving over to Red Bull and filling Verstappen's vacant seat. Ricciardo in turn was replaced by Izz Ford, who moved on from Aston Martin after two years, joining Piastri at the Woking outfit. Enzo Fittipaldi, who placed second in the 2024 Formula 2 Championship, was signed by Aston Martin to replace the departing Ford.
Calendar
[edit]The 2025 calendar consists of sixteen events. The Emilia Romagna, Austrian and São Paulo Grands Prix featured the sprint format.
Calendar expansion and changes
[edit]- The Australian, Emilia Romagna, Spanish and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix returned to the calendar as part of a rotation.
- However to accommodate this, the Chinese, Miami, Monaco and the Portuguese Grand Prix were rotated and not included on the 2025 roster.

[edit]Scoring system
[edit]Points were awarded to the top ten classified drivers, the driver who set the fastest lap during the Grand Prix (only if one of the top ten), and the top eight of the sprint.[b] In the case of a tie on points a countback system was used where the driver with the most Grand Prix wins was ranked higher. If the number of wins was identical then the number of second places was considered, and so on. The points were awarded for every race using the following system.
Position | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th | 7th | 8th | 9th | 10th | FL |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Race | 25 | 18 | 15 | 12 | 10 | 8 | 6 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 |
Sprint | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |

World Constructors' Championship standings

|
Notes:
- † – Driver did not finish the Grand Prix, but was classified as he completed more than 90% of the race distance.
- Rows are not related to the drivers: within each team, individual Grand Prix standings are sorted purely based on the final classification in the race (not by total points scored in the event, which includes points awarded for fastest lap and sprint).
Notes
[edit]- ^ Formula One regulations were first introduced during the 1946 Grand Prix season.
- ^ In the event of a race ending prematurely, the number of points paying positions may be reduced, depending on how much of the race had been completed.
