Joyce
History
Joyce is a Geometry Dash[1] level that was made by RMDEofficial[2]. It was released in early 2024, & was rated about 2 months after its release. Since it earned its rating, people have been uploading videos of their completions, and putting heavy note on how bad they found the gameplay. It was placed at #20 on the Platformer Demonlist[3], before falling down a few spots due to newly rated levels.
Gameplay & Decoration
As many know, Joyce has earned a lot of hate over its gameplay, although the decorations definitely make up for this. Joyce uses a clean, atmospheric style, and the block designs are bright. You may notice many particles floating around in the air, & you also may notice small details like little drips of liquid off of blocks, floating eyes staring at you as you move, or the floating tree platform found near the top. It should now be mentioned that Joyce's gameplay is hated for a simple reason: there are no checkpoints, and you cannot die. It probably makes sense that having no checkpoints in a level can trigger people, but the no death part makes less sense. In Joyce, you slowly climb up floating blocks of varying sizes, in attempt to make it to the top. Along the way, you come across challenges, such as the ice blocks that become more and more common as you get closer to the top. If you ever time a click incorrectly, then you risk falling off the edge of a platform, which will send you back to the bottom if you don't react quick. This concept of repeated falling down and having to climb back up to where you once were it what gave Joyce its reputation for hate.
Contributors
Joyce is a project made almost entirely by RMDEofficial, although there was some inspiration and minor help from others. Joyce was heavily inspired by other climb-levels, including levels like Dashing Over it, Fall Facility, & Dash King. If you read Joyces description, it can be seen that Ego11[4] was involved with designing some of the floor decorations. His work in Joyce includes the piles of gold at the bottom, the spikey vine designs, & some feedback for RMDE himself. Alongside this, RoccoTheDrocco[5] was the creator of Ulysess[6]; the level that brought Joyce to us. Since Joyce is actually a sequel to Ulysess, it simply wouldn't exist without the help of Rocco, so much of the credits do go to them.
