Welcome

[edit]

I've begun construction of this page on January 19, 2009, so please do keep close watch for falling debris. You may wish to don a hardhat while construction is in progress.

About Me

[edit]

Wikipedia is but one of my many diverse interests. It is probably the only place all of my interests can be tied together. At heart, I consider myself to be a scientist and a humanitarian. While no shingles hang upon my walls attesting to either, I've been involved in studies relating to both for over four decades. Additionally, I'm a JavaScript junkie and a chef, though I've given both professions up long ago. I much prefer keeping them balanced with my other hobbies.

Knowledgeable Areas

[edit]

Astronomy

[edit]
My main passion is astronomy and just about anything related to everything non-Earthly. For me, peering through a telescope and seeing how limitless this universe is tends to put my day to day trials and tribulations in their proper perspective. No single area of astronomy holds my interest above another. From history to present, from inner space to outer space, from what is to what's theorized, I'm there.

Photography

[edit]
It was due to my fascination with the heavens that my second biggest passion became realized. I had purchased a high-end SLR camera for attaching to my telescope. Almost immediately, it became an added appendage. Wherever I was, my camera was with me. All modesty aside, I am told frequently that I am gifted, and have made a little money selling usage rights to a few of my images.
I consider my knowledge of photography to be almost as extensive as my knowledge of astronomy. From the history of photography and it's pioneers to today's digital advancements and many professional photo editing programs. I'm familiar with the various types of cameras - past and present, films and film processing, special effects and more.

Lasers

[edit]
I would not necessarily classify lasers as a passion, but I seem to have gathered a good deal of knowledge over the years regarding them. I've worked with various types of lasers used for metal cutting and drilling (flat and multi-axis) for a considerable span. With backgrounds in electronics and several fields of physics as well as a very good comprehension of the dynamics of light, understanding lasers of nearly all types came naturally to me.

Music

[edit]
My third biggest passion. At one point, I was considered by many to be a guru. Currently, I consider myself simply more knowledgeable than most on who played or sat in with which group or artist, who toured with who, who wrote what, who inspired who, etc. 90% or so of my knowledge relates to charted and uncharted rock (hard and soft), pop, lite music and folk stretching from the 50's through today. I'm not "gung-ho" about alot of today's pop so that one area has tapered off a bit.

Other Areas of Knowledge

[edit]

The list of other areas that I believe I possess more knowledge than most is probably too menial to list thoroughly. The knowledgeable areas listed above are areas I feel I possess as much if not more knowledge than many so called experts in those fields.

As mentioned earlier, I enjoy JavaScript. I've been playing with JavaScript for nearly sixteen years now. I worked as a chef for just as long but my cooking is now done at home with foods that I prefer so my learning in that area has tapered off considerably. I'm also quite adept in a number of mechanical fields.
