JOSE LEONIDAS MEJIA A. Licensed Architect since 1989.
[edit]I studied Architecture 1982-1987 at the USB University in Colombia South America. was nominated as one of the best ten students in the country but also awarded with the Corona Award , Second Prize for a research on urbanism to transform a private enormous back yards of houses into a public spaces as the little town does not have public spaces other than the original plaza.
I am the creator of "Kinetic Architecture" in my region which was originally in Spanish language as: "Arquitectura Kinética" since 1989. The term was unknown in most parts of the world and even among the local community of architects nobody could have known about the term. Just right now I knew because of the Internet that Prof. Zuk and Professor Roger Clark created the term "Kinetic Architecture" in 1970 when they wrote a book on the theme which was a metaphor that considered facts to reuse a building based on multiple changes conditions. The fact that Professor Clark and Professor Zuk created the term in 1970 and then I created it in 1989 does not means my creation to be less important that theirs.Different times, cultures, and location, made that any creation on anything to have same value to its creators that by similarities brought same ideas. Information was not globalized not even in 1989 and that is a reason for why could be acceptable the fact that inventions could be created in different periods. I'll be defending the creation of Kinetic Architecture also and I am sure this can not be an issue with anyone in the world because of the facts I am revewing with all here in this blog.
Now, Along the years I have been Incorporating features to transform a building in multiple directions, so its transformation varies by the necessities of environment. That is why I am working in a experimental project denominated " The Arkinetic House" where proposing a building that transforms its structure and all components, walls, ceiling, floors in different directions, so shape and senses inside and outside the house looks different.
Other researches I have promoted along the decades to endure topics on higher education like sustainable architecture in campus, Preservation of Modernism of the XX Century, as well interviewing Modern Famous Architects like Cesar Pelli, Frank Ghery, Robert Stern, Herbert Neuman, Leon Krier, Dion Neutra between others to endure origins of Modernism of the XX Century. I was the principal promoter to make possible the opening of the Glass House to the public in 2006 which was a greatful project and still a he is a volunteer at the Philip Johnson Glass House Foundation.
One of my main objectives is to support other architects to get their goals on topics that are of great interest today including Sustainable Architecture. Recently he became a International Ambassador of The International Living Building Institute, USA to promote Sustainable architecture in South America by using the program "The Living Building Challenge", ready scheduled for power point presentations in local government buildings.
