Knut Sørsdal (born july 28, 1950 in Oslo, Norway) is a scientist in Norway. He has a master of science in computational mathematics (Cand. Real.) from 1981. He graduated from the University of Oslo the same year. He wrote a thesis about inverse Q filtering applied on the Riccati equation.

For some years he was a teacher at the technical high school NKI in Oslo, and specialized in mathematics and computers. For some years he worked as a computer consultant leading up to a position as a research assistant in connection with the Gospel Center and the Statistical Central bureau of Norway. In this work he assisted a research project leading up to a doctor thesis for one of the researchers of the group. Knut Sørsdal also provided statistical data for the Social report, a yearly publication from the Statistical Central bureau of Norway.

Few years ago, after a periode of illness, he took up parts of the research with inverse Q filtering on the Riccati equation at the University of Oslo.

The research resulted in a paper '1-D non-linear inversion of data with absorption - revisited'

Some of the topics of interest of Sørsdal is outlined in articles on Wikipedia. These articles briefly touch his research, however is basic and introduce no new research. Sørsdals contribution is an interactive datasystem where some of these topics are applied. This system is developed further from 2014.
