About me

[edit]

I am a 41-year-old male music enthusiast from the UK who has worked professionally as a musician for over 20 years. I've also written music reviews and articles for a number of well known publications and online music sites. My user name is derived from the title of one of my all-time favourite songs, "Kohoutek" by R.E.M., which is named after Comet Kohoutek. The song isn't really about the comet itself but instead, deals with the subject of lost love and features the line "Like Kohoutek, you were gone", referring to the fact that Comet Kohoutek won't be seen in our skies again for another 75,000 years. The 1138 part of my user name comes from a reoccurring number that appears throughout the Star Wars films and is a subtle reference to my love of the Star Wars saga.

My favourite bands and artists are beat, folk rock and psychedelic acts from the 1960s, including the Beatles, the Byrds, Bob Dylan, Donovan, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, the Left Banke, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Jefferson Airplane, and Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd. I'm also into indie and alternative rock from the 1990s up to the present day. However, these popular music genres and artists that I've mentioned only cover the smallest fraction of the types of music I'm interested in overall. My tastes are pretty broad and encompass everything from country blues and New Wave music to big beat and Indian classical music...and all points inbetween.

My motivation for editing Wikipedia is that I feel that music is extremely important and as such, articles relating to styles of music, albums, singles, record labels and individual artists or bands should be impeccably maintained and display the utmost accuracy. I hope to do my bit to ensure that articles are free from any factual inaccuracies, presented in an unbiased, encyclopedic fashion, and feature multiple inline citations.

My top ten albums of all time

[edit]

I realise that top 10 lists are nonsense, but in true High Fidelity fashion, I just had to make one. Of course, it's impossible to sum up all of your musical loves with just ten items. After all, music isn't shoes - it's oxygen.

  1. The Notorious Byrd Brothers - The Byrds
  2. Revolver - The Beatles
  3. The Beatles - The Beatles
  4. Fables of the Reconstruction - R.E.M.
  5. Bringing It All Back Home - Bob Dylan
  6. A Gift from a Flower to a Garden - Donovan
  7. Graceland - Paul Simon
  8. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
  9. Paradise Circus - The Lilac Time
  10. Going Blank Again - Ride
