From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Super Typhoon is an extremely powerful tropical cyclone in the Northwest Pacific basin, with 1-minute sustained winds greater than 67 metres per second (m/s), over 150 miles per hour (240 km/h).[1] This term is used by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), and is considered to be an "unofficial" label in the West Pacific basin. The term can also be applied to hurricanes or other tropical cyclones, such as a "super hurricane" or "super cyclone", but is generally used only for typhoons, tropical cyclones in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The term is comparable to that of "Major hurricane" (Category 3 to 5 storms) in the North Atlantic and Pacific hurricane basins.
