Song

"Until It Beats No More" Is a song by American Recording Artist Jennifer Lopez from her 2011 Seventh Studio Album Love?. The song is about giving your heart to someone who has lifted you through the hard times in your life, and has brought you out of a really terrible place, according to Lopez. Lopez has performed the song on occasions and most notably it appears as the soundtrack to her commercial promoting Fiat Cars[1].

Background and Reception

[edit]

The song was re-recorded In 2010 as a result of Lopez's Record Label switch to Island Records. It was written by Troy Johnson, Evan Bogart & Jörgen Elofsson. It was produced by Radio. The song was one of the original songs intended to be apart of Love? and eventually managed to make the finale cut for the official Playlist. It dates back to Early 2010 when it surfaced online following her performance of the song on Saturday Night Live as "Pieces" (the working title) but it was re-titled to "Until It Beats No More." The song has been considered to be an upcoming single as Lopez is promoting it in several ways (including the My World commercial and her selection to sing it at the AMAs and at other Performances).

The song has received praise on Internet Blogs and YouTube. A Billboard Review saw the reaction to the song - "Sounds like she's singing straight to Marc Anthony on this one. Honest and adult. "I feel the beat again, stronger than before" Aw"[2]. The song is also well received for Lopez's vocals; noting that her range has come a far way and it is vocally and lyrically one of the stand out songs of Love?. Another Review had positive words, "Until It Beats No More - This is cute. And would be mostly just that if it weren’t for the ending. She is KILLING it at the end of the song! She is belting and it is powerful! It now becomes very obvious why Jenny said this album would showcase her best vocals to date. Proud of her!"[3]. The song has been compared to another track, "Starting Over" on Love? which also dignified strong state of mind.

Also others have stated that the song itself is amazing, however Lopez's limited range restricts the song from shining through[4]. Rolling Stones said that the song was one of two that stood out from the album. "There are exactly two satisfying songs, "On the Floor" and the wind-whipped "Until It Beats No More"[5].

My World Commercial

Fiat 500, The Car Which Lopez Is endorsing

On 10 October 2011 Lopez's official commercial with the FIAT Car Brand aired[6]. The Commercial depicts Lopez leaving High Town Manhattan and making her way back to the Bronx, her origin. She says the words "Here, This is My World. This Place Inspires me to be tougher, to stay sharper, to think faster. They may be just streets to you, but to me - they are a playground,"[7] as the song plays in the background.

Live Performances

[edit]

Lopez first Debuted the Song at Saturday Night Live on 27 February 2010, introducing it as "Pieces"[8] at the time and also sang "Starting Over" at the same time[9]. Her performance was well received and received standing ovation from the audience.

Lopez also sang the song over a year later at the 15th Anniversary concert for Mohegan Sun - She broke down during her performances of "One Love" and "Until It Beats No More" and left the stage in tears[10]. On 20 November 2011 she took the Stage at the 2011 American Music Awards[11], and performed The song along with a medley that included "On The Floor" and "Papi". Lopez started singing the song with a flowing, gold dress on, and after the first verse, it whipped off to reveal a sparkling dress underneath as she sang "Papi", and later, "On The Floor".
