Mark Kamrath
Mark L. Kamrath is a professor of American literature and culture at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando.
Biography
Born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Kamrath earned a bachelor’s degree in English Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984. He received a masters in English degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1991, and a Ph.D. in English in 1996. He took a teaching position at UCF in 1997, which he currently holds.
He is the General Editor of the Charles Brockden Brown Electronic Archive and Scholarly Edition, a project that focuses on providing access to the letters, novels, poems, political pamphlets, and periodical writings of Charles Brockden Brown, America’s first professional author (1771-1810).
Kamrath also specializes in eighteenth-century American periodical literature and has done collaborative work in the field of digital humanities. His has been awarded three major research grants by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
He teaches classes to both graduate and undergraduate students. Course topics include: bibliography and research, American literature from the colonial period to the Civil War, Native American literature, the American novel, English Romantics, and digital humanities.
Kamrath has served as a board member and webmaster for the Charles Brockden Brown Society since 2002, and Co-Director of the UCF Center for Humanities and Digital Research (CHDR) since 2007. He is a founding member of the Florida Digital Humanities Consortium (FLDH) since 2014. Over the years, he has also been an inspector for the Modern Languages of America (MLA) Committee on Scholarly Editions (CSE) and a grant review panelist for the NEH.
