Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors

The Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors (AIRA) is a non-profit group founded in 1979, after the 1978 Bankruptcy Reform Act, to represent bankruptcy accounting professionals working under then newly established laws. [1]

It has changed its name several times. In 1982 it was first called the NAAI, changing to the Association of Insolvency Accountants (AIA) in 1984, and finally adopted its current moniker in 1999 to reflect broader industry trends. [2]

To support professional standards, it developed a 3-part course followed by rigourous exams to, in 1992, establish the Certified Insolvency Restructuring Advisor (CIRA) program. [3]
