My real name is Daan Gerla. I have a PhD in the field of ecology and currently I work as a post-doctoral researcher at a sea research institute.

I chose my nickname to advertise the idea that scientific knowledge should be available to everybody free of charge. However, I do not think that everybody should be able to "edit" scientific knowledge, and I do not see Wikipedia as an authoritarian source. Nevertheless, many people, including myself, use Wikipedia often, so I think it is worthwhile to improve it where I can. I also enjoy formulating concisely concepts I work with every day.
