Social determinants of American Indian Nutritional Health. Current Developments in Nutrition. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2475299122136942
American Indians suffer from significant health disparities, including diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. There are many risk factors for disease like poverty, federal food programs, boarding schools, historical and childhood trauma. American Indians want improved existing food programs, promotions in childhood nutrition, promotions in food sovereignty, access to traditional foods, epand locally cultivated foods, and to subsidize healthier options. Thesd additions will need to be studied, evaluated, and reported.

[edit]Quintero, Luis, Emilia Simeonova, and Randall Akee. 2021. "Pandemic Protocols, Native Nutrition: Grocery Store Access from American Indian Reservations during COVID-19." AEA Papers and Proceedings, 111: 602-06.DOI: 10.1257/pandp.20211117
American Indians have 3.5 times the COVID-19 infection rate and 1.5 times the death rate. Quintero et al. demonstrates how there were unanticipated effects on American Indian bahavior due to social distancing policies. Additionally, it shows how there is a reduction in distance traveled to grocery stores for on-reservation households than off-reservation. There is also an increase in trips to stores for the reservation residents.
