Bogumila Zongollowicz (born 9 November 1955 in Słupsk,Poland), née Trocka, is a Polish and Australian journalist, poet, writer, biographer and documentalist.

Biography

Her educational journey includes undergraduate studies at the Tertiary Teachers’ College of Słupsk (1974–78), postgraduate studies in Polish Philology at the University of Gdańsk (1983–84), a postgraduate diploma in Journalism and Editing from the University of Warsaw in 1988, a Journalism course at the Open Channel in Melbourne (1993–1994), Professional Writing and Editing as well as Desktop Publishing at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (1995–1998), and Electronic Publishing from the Swinburne University of Technology (2001). In 2003, she obtained her PhD in Slavic Studies through the Macquarie University in Sydney.

She started her career as a journalist at the editorial office of the Słupsk weekly ‟Konfrontacje”. In December 1989, she began working with one of the first private newspapers in Poland, ‟Goniec Pomorski”, published by the LGH Advertising and Publishing Agency in Koszalin. In February 1990, she became the head of the paper’s Słupsk branch, which she ran until the end of September 1991, that is until her emigration to Australia. She has worked as an independent journalist since 1991, editing the Melbourne-based Polish language paper, "Polish Weekly" in 1996 and working as a guest lecturer on migrant literature at Melbourne’s Monash University in 2003.

In 1985, she won the One Poem Tournament organised as part of the Fifth Literary Session of the Słupsk Young Writers’ Club. In 1999, she was awarded the Medal of Honour ‟Polonia Semper Fidelis”. In 2018, she received a distinction in the Historical Competition under the auspices of Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs for the best publication in the category ‟Best publication in Polish in the History of Polish Diplomacy” for the book "Konsul. Biography of Ladislas de Noskowski". In 2019, she received the Decoration of Honor Meritorious for Polish Culture.

Her poetry first appeared in ‟Głos Pomorza” in 1983. She is the author of more than a thousand press articles, which have been published in Poland and the Polish media around the world, including in publications such as: ‟Kultura” (Paris), ‟Nowy Dziennik” (New York), "Dziennik Polski i Dziennik Żołnierza" (London), "Polityka" (Warsaw), "Goniec Pomorski" (Koszalin), ‟Głos Pomorza” (Słupsk), ‟Integracje” (Warsaw), ‟Przegląd Tygodniowy” (Warsaw), ‟Kurier Zachodni” (Perth), ‟Tygodnik Polski” (Melbourne), ‟Wiadomości Polskie” (Sydney). ‟Policjanci. Policyjny Magazyn Historyczny 2009” (Kielce).

In 1993, she co-founded the Polish radio programme 3RIM in Melton. Between 1991–2023, she has been a contributor to the Polish language programme at SBS Radio. Between 1997–1999, she contributed to the Department of Polish Biographical Studies, at the Polish University Abroad, in Paris. In 2003, she contributed to the editorial team of the Encyclopedia of Polish Emigration and Polonia in Toruń, Poland. Since 2009, she has worked with the Department of the Polish Biographical Dictionary at the Institute of History within the Polish Academy of Sciences, in Cracow. Between 2007–2015, she was the chair of the jury of the Andrzej Gawronski Melbourne Satirical Competition (2007–2015).

Bogumila Zongollowicz’s research interests focus on the settlement of Poles in Australia after World War II; their contribution to the development of culture and science in Poland and Australia.
