Congratulations

Hi, Prodego/archive/11, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. Congratulations, you've just been made a sysop! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except junk like "LALALALAL*&*@#@THIS_SUXX0RZ"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun!

PS: Looks like someone made you a sysop but forgot to remove the nomination or tell you. So I don't know. Tell me if you experience any problems. — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:29, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Haha! No problem and congrats :) — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:36, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations

Consensus having been reached, I am pleased to inform you that you are now an Administrator on the English Wikipedia. If there is anything I can do to help you learn the ropes, please let me know. (By the way, I believe you have a distinction of having two bureaucrats fighting over your nomination; I set rights, but Ilyanep closed the nomination! :-)) Essjay TalkContact 22:30, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Yessiree. I don't believe that's happened before :P — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:36, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
So clearly we don't need more Bcrats ;-) I'll be back to thank you properly later, I'm out! Prodego talk 22:40, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations! --Ixfd64 01:15, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Congrats! You deserved it. Covington 02:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm just being a pain in the ass, ignore me. Have fun, block some vandals, protect some pages, and have an overall good time. Enjoy your delivery. -Mysekurity [m!] 01:43, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Ditto from me here, congrats! Weatherman90 02:04, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Congrats on your RfA now here's a vandal to block.

Title says it all, vandal is 203.17.156.230 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). JoshuaZ 01:20, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Aww, that's too bad. I was hoping I could give you your first vandal to whack, now I'll need to go find another. I doubt it will take that long. One moment please. JoshuaZ 01:31, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, your last message was about 10 seconds too late, I already found another one for you to block, its a Jason Gastrich sock 207.160.71.134 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). JoshuaZ 01:36, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, sorry about the date on him. Didn't realize he was so old, I just came across him and since we had a storm of Gastrich socks a few hours ago, I presumed he was one of the new ones without looking too closely as the contrib list. JoshuaZ 03:03, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations!!!

Congratulations on your new mop! Sango123 (e) 03:26, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations on your Rfa nomination and I appreciate the thank you comment for my vote, I'm glad to have been able to vote for such a friendly and well deserving candidate. I hope to see you around some more and have a great day! -- Patman2648 19:14 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

My RfA

Hi Prodego. Just a quick note to thank you for your support in my RfA, which recently passed 62/13/6. I will do my very best live up to this new responsibility and to serve the community, but please let me know if I make any mistakes or if you have any feedback at all on my actions. Finally, if there is anything that I can assist you with - please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers TigerShark 03:44, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

An olive branch

Hey Prodego, I think we might've got off on the wrong foot yesterday with the whole subst: issue, and that I'm sorry. I hope we can work together sometime, and maybe do some kinda admin action or the like. Have a good time with your adminship, and listen to the advice KillerChihuahua gave you above—he's only half-joking. Ok, well, I just wanted to let you know that I'm not usually such a dick, and we'll talk sometime in the future. Happy editing, Mysekurity [m!] 19:13, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

It's no problem. Prodego talk 19:15, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
So you up for some admin task sometime? -Mysekurity [m!] 19:33, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
For you or overall? I have already done several 'admin things', look in my log ;-) if you need anything done, go ahead and ask of course! Happy editing. Prodego talk 19:35, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Whoah-ho! Congrats on all that so far. I'm not sure of a project I could think of, but if you need any help with your cool new tools, or need an extra hand, don't hesitate to ask. -Mysekurity [m!] 19:44, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I seem to be having *just one of those days*/weeks, so pardon me. I was wondering if you thought it would be a good idea to submit a feature request so that deleted pages can be protected (and not just pasted over with a template, thus blue-linking them), with a MediaWiki namespace boilerplate message stating that it was deleted and should not be created. Do you think it's worthwhile to submit this bug, considering the last one I submitted (4434) hasn't been touched in months? -Mysekurity [m!] 19:57, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
It probably wouldn't be too hard to impliment, and just copying the Template: namespace text over to the MediaWiki namespace won't take much work, but I imagine there has to be some kind of clause to make the link appear red. The way of dealing with this would be very similar to MediaWiki:noarticletext (which, now that you're a sysop, you can edit), but would be activated via protecting a deleted page. I guess the devs have a bunch on their plate already, but in terms of feasability, I would imagine the MediaWiki text would be better than a template for a variety of reasons, but as of now, I must make my exit. We'll talk later, or if you want, e-mail me. Happy editing, Mysekurity [m!] 20:17, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
Now this is what I like to see with new admins! Hey, if you're feeling adventurous, why not take a dip into other MediaWiki pages and edit them to your liking. Judging by your edits to the noarticletext page, I'd say you're on the right track, but check some of these out, and edit away (after all, this is a wiki)! -Mysekurity [m!] 02:29, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Sure! (my (username)@gmail.com). What version of MW are you running? Anything special, or just a test? I'd be glad to contribute, and though it's been said many times, many ways, happy sysopping to you. -Mysekurity [m!] 02:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Tawkerbot2

Its still in the feature que, its a hard one to implement, Joshbuddy and I have been talking about it but its getting there, sorry about that -- Tawker 21:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to VandalProof

Thanks for your interest in VandalProof! You've been added to the list of authorized users, and I will do my best to notify you once a download becomes available. AmiDaniel (Talk) 03:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

It's coming along pretty well. Right now, I'm mainly just working on minor interface details, trying to make it a little easier for users other than myself to understand what everything does. I also just added a short routine that substitutes any test templates on userpages edited by VandalProof ... the one "problem" I'm having with that routine is that it "substitutes" commented templates (<!--{{test4}}--> becomes <!--{{subst:test4)-->) which I think I'm just going to leave because I don't think it's necessarily a problem (or is it?). I'm also starting a simple help file on it and improving the welcome page. So long as nothing (work, school, non-Wikipedia life) big comes up this week, I'll probably have it ready for download this weekend, so be sure to check back if you don't hear from me. AmiDaniel (Talk) 03:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Oh, thanks. I'll have to work that in somehow. Just one question: What is SECRETTOKEN? Is that the oldid? Or can it be omitted? AmiDaniel (Talk) 04:23, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
On a similar note, are the ampersand switches listed somewhere (especially the possible actions)? I was hoping to find one that could turn off the preview when viewing an edit diff, so that I could speed everything up a bit. AmiDaniel (Talk) 04:28, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Oops, somehow I completely forgot to add you to the list, yet I still sent you the welcome message ... strange. Sorry about that. I might have just confirmed the point that Mysekurity was making. Now I'm gonna have to go check that I didn't miss anyone else. Sorry! AmiDaniel (Talk) 21:54, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

That's perfectly fine with me, and you can feel free to improve the page more if you want! ... It's currently on my To-Do list to improve it, as right now it's basically just a test page for initialization (and it stores the userlist--shhhh). AmiDaniel (Talk) 22:18, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Sort of a combination of both. There are a variety of tags that I can add to the page to, for instance, disable the app or alert users of upgrades. You'll also notice that a few of the names on the list appear with Html char formatting, such as Can%27t_sleep%2C_clown_will_eat_me, which is partially the reason for having the two separate lists. I want one for people to see and one for the app to see ... copy and paste isn't that difficult. When the page loads in VP, it is stripped of all references to the source page such as edit, edit section, permanent link, discussion, watch, what links here, etc., etc, and since I use the section edits when editing the list, I removed the NOEDITSECTION from the page. You can feel free to laugh at my system, but it actually works suprisingly well. Anyone using the app has no clue how where everything's being stored, which was more or less the goal. AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:10, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
They see the parts of the page that they're "allowed" to see, which is pretty much everything about the user list and below the title, as well as the search and basic WP controls (that don't refer back to the page). AmiDaniel (Talk) 23:17, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

The Royalties

Pordego.

My name is Jeff I was trying to add this article under the royalties. (see below) Please let me know why it has been deleted. Thanks, Jeff (jefflap@comcast.net) is my email

The Royalties (1995-1999) were founded in 1995 by a group of Hillsborough High School Students. One of the first ska bands based out of New Jersey, The group played their first show in 1996 under the name Ska Skank Redemption. Shortly after they added Dan Ross on Tenor Sax and became know as The Royalties. The band played over 100 shows, almost all in the New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia areas. In 1997 the band recorded a 7 inch record in 1997 entitled "Welcome to New Jersey" featuring two songs, the do It yourself anthems "Avoid the Crime" and "SSR DIY". The Record received some local college airplay throughout New Jersey. In 1998 The Royalties recorded a full length album entitled "Endless Nights On The Town". In May 1999, shortly after the album was released The Royalties played their last show. The Royalties used all the money they made from merchandise sales and shows to produce and record their own music. Members of The Royalties went on to play in Streetlight Manifesto, One Cool Guy and Midtown.

Hi. I removed the PROD tag from this article. It had been PROD-tagged previously, but contested by Kappa. If you still think the article needs to be removed, you're welcome to take it to WP:AFD. Joyous | Talk 03:37, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

I know it's a bit late, but I didn't want that page deleted. I thought I was supposed to take down the HangOn tag after I'd made my case. I still think, FZ, Finisterre and hostsonaten should have pages. LRossi 04:40, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

A Download Is Now Available

I just wanted to let you know that a download of VandalProof has recently been made available. AmiDaniel (Talk) 09:50, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
