History

[edit]

The Windom State Theater was first built in 1914. At this time it was known as the Wonderland Theatre. It was constructed by John and Henry Stroud in 1913. In July 1, 1916 the theater was packed for the third annual rural school commencement. Before it was used for movies it showed Vaudeville performances. In 1937, it became a State Theater. Saving the Theater

[edit]

In 2011 the theater shut down. The town’s people were behind the theater and wanted to save it. They were brought together to help the theater stay open. It reopened its doors in August 2012. However, they did not know for how long because the theater was using old equipment. The theater realized that they would have to update their equipment to digital in order to get the new movies. The digital one would cost them 62,000 dollars. They earned this money by fundraises. Some fundraises that they did included soup and desert luncheons. They also got at loan from the county commissioner to help them. [2] They did get the digital projector until May 2013. The first showing with the digital projector was with “The Croods” for Windom School Students. [5]
