Serena Bocchino

Serena Bocchino is an American Painter, Print Maker, and Sculptor. Bocchino has received recognition from many institutions, including New York City’s Artists Space, P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center and the Museum of Modern Art. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions at Rutgers University have awarded Ms. Bocchino Fellowship grants. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts has recognized and awarded her in both painting and drawing. Her work is represented in public, private and corporate collections around the world.

Life and Education

Serena Bocchino was born in Engelwood, New Jersey to artist mother Lucia Confalone Bocchino. Serena Bocchino studied Painting with Arie Galles, and color theory with colorist, Voy Bangor. She studied Art and Humanities at Wroxton College, Oxfordshire, England. After graduating from the Honors College at Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor of arts and a published  her Thesis: A Study of Painting Techniques. She received her masters degree from New York University in 1985. Bocchino is married to Stephen Keough.

Career

New York City galleries began showing Serena Bocchino’s work in 1985. Since then U.S. and international galleries and museums, such as, Exhibit A [Soho, NY], Art Haus San Francisco [CA], Jeffrey Coploff Fine Art Ltd. [Chelsea, NY], Sears/Peyton [Chelsea, NY], the State Museum [Trenton, NY], Princeton University [Princeton, NJ], Studio Bocchi [Rome, Italy], Galerie du Tableau [Marseilles, France], have featured Bocchino’s work in solo and group exhibitions. Most recently Bocchino work was on view as part of CONTEMPORARY X Miami Beach 2016.

Honors and Fellowships

Bocchino was recognized in both Painting and Drawing by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 2002 and 1985. In 1989, she was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, New York, NY; She was chosen for an International Studio Residency in 1987 at the PS1/MOMA Studio Residency Program, New York, NY. She was recognized in 2013 for an Excellence in the Arts Award, for Vision & Leadership.
