Biography

[edit]

Baba Ali was the Agha of the Spahis during the reign of his predecessor, and shortly after his assassination he was visited by the militia of Algiers in the country side, He was refered as Ali-Melmouli which is probably his Birth name[1] During his reign he was called as Bou Sebaa, because of his missing finger. He was described as an ignorant and brutal, the opposite of his predecessor.[2]

He is known for encouraging the piracy in the Mediterranean, as he said to one of the sailors at his every day inspection of the ports of Algiers. « I am the leader of a band of thieves, and therefore my job is to take and not to return. »[3]

Political activities

[edit]

He would easily take out 2 rebellions of the militia in April and in September, during that time he would prove his good intentions with the Kingdom of France and of Great Britain. But would also declare war on the Netherlands and Tuscany, and Danemark and Sweden but would calm the storm with presents.[4]
