Fictional history

[edit]

Introduced in The Clone Wars television series, Fives, designation number CT-27-5555,[a] a clone trooper soldier serving in the Grand Army of the Republic in numerous campaigns of the Clone Wars against the Separatist battle droid army. As a clone trooper, he was cloned on Kamino from bounty hunter Jango Fett and ages at an accelerated rate, aging twenty years in ten years.[1][2] He is initially introduced in the season one episode "Rookies", in which he is assigned to a remote listening post near Kamino that is invaded by battle doirds. Though the attack is successfully repelled, only he and fellow trooper Echo survive, and they are reassigned to the 501st Legion under the command of clone Captain Rex and Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano.

The season three episode "Clone Cadets" depicts Fives, Echo, and their unit Domino squad during their prior training on Kamino under the supervision of Jedi Shaak Ti. Domino squad is initially unable to work together to pass their final test and risk being assigned to menial labor on Kamino. Fives and Echo, feeling weighed down by the others in the squad , request to be reassigned, but the request is denied. Instead, Shaak Ti advises them to recommit themselves to the squad. Fives and Echo follow her advice, helping the squad pass. In the subsequent episode "ARC Troopers", Fives and Echo aid the 501st Legion defend Kamino from invasion and are promoted to ARC Troopers for their exemplary service. Shortly after, Echo is apparently killed, leaving Fives as the sole survivor of Domino squad.

In a season four, the 501st Legion is temporarily led by Jedi General Pong Krell. In the face of Krell's callousness toward clone lives and refusal to treat the troopers as individuals instead of numbered units, Fives calls for Rex to openly defy Krell. Additionally, when Krell intends to follow a plan that will incur significant trooper casualties, Fives disobeys direct orders to enact an alternative plan. Though he secures a Republic victory, Krell, without process of a court-martial, finds Fives guilty of treason and sentences him to execution by firing squad. However, Fives urges his fellow troopers to see this as an injustice, and the firing squad refuses to execute him.

In season six, when trooper Tup actsg strangely and executes a Jedi General, Fives accompanies him to Kamino for a medical assessment. Fives suspects the doctor's truthfulness and acts against orders to protect Tup, whose health is failing. Fives finds a tumor inside Tup's brain and has it removed, but Tup dies regardless. Though arrested for insubordination, Fives continues investigating and discovers that the tumor is truly a inhibitor biochip secretly implanted into all clone troopers' brains. He removes his own and attempts to warn the Republic that the clone trooper army can be used against the Jedi. However, Chancellor Palpatine frames Fives for an assassination attempt, initiating a hunt for Fives. Fives is able to contact Rex and Anakin, and he attempts to warn them of the conspiracy and of Palpatine's involvement. He is ultimately killed by Commander Fox of the Coruscant Guard and dies in Rex's arms.
