VA23 Black Knights Ground Attack Squadron Patch

Dedicated to US Naval Aviation History and providing information about the incident that occurred on June 2, 1965 aboard the USS Midway CVA-41 as part of Operation Rolling Thunder during the beginning phases of the Vietnam War when three planes were lost and six airmen did not return to the ship. We will take a detailed look into the disappearance of LTJG David Marion Christian which includes firsthand eyewitness accounts, CIA documents, Joint Chiefs of Staffs, and Aviation Safety Network records. These records are available at the Library of Congress under case no 0092 and the crew of VAW-13 can be found under case no 0093. All information about this incident are derived from the original the Joint Chiefs of Staffs' Final Accounting Reports, CIA meeting notes and the book Midway Magic: An Oral History of America's Legendary Aircraft Carrier by Scott McGaugh.
