Yalla! Let’s Talk. Inc. (YLT) is a purpose-driven media company and a platform for Arab-identifying Millennials and Gen Z. YLT was founded by Hani Al-Dajane and Mays Alwash in 2017 to focus on tackling underrepresented issues. Today the company has grown into different pillars that brought forth YLT Café series around the globe, Third Culture Talks podcast, weekly Virtual Café, YLT CON, Video content, and a media publication.

Led by Product Manager, Meis Al-Falahe, YLT’s media publication is an example of social journalism, having a hybrid collection of amateur and professional people and publications, or exclusive blogs or publishers on its platform, and is regularly regarded as a hub for Arab creators.

History

[edit]

In 2017, Hani Al-Dajane started Yalla! Let’s Talk. as a YouTube channel out of his desire (and lowkey frustration) to create more dialogue on stigmatized and underrepresented issues in the Arab-identifying community. Hani approached Co-Founder, Mays Alwash, a good friend from the University of Toronto, with the idea that these conversations need to happen in physical spaces. There are a lot of issues that are left unchallenged and ignored in our cultures, and they wanted to provide the fourm to hear and amplify different views. Hani and Mays went onto to mobilize a passionate team of young Arabs to start making their generation to talk. With the help of advisor Rania Younes at the Canadian Arab Institute 2018, YLT soon became one of the fastest growing initiatives for young Arabs in North America. Product Manager, Meis Al-Falahe, joined and spearheaded the YLT development in London, UK, as well as establishing a podcast under the YLT umbrella.

In 2020, the YLT team re-launched as a purpose-driven media company and platform with a mission of creating representation and amplifying the diverse voices of Arab Millennials and Gen Z. They noted, “as diverse as the world is, the narrative is not."
