Interested in becoming a regular contributor to Wikipedia? Create an account! Your , so you might receive messages on this page that were not intended for you.To have your own user pages, keep track of articles you've edited in a watchlist, and have access to a few other special features, please consider registering an account! It's fast and free. (Note: Sometimes, due to vandalism, you may be temporarily unable to register). Applying an indefinite block to this IP is not appropriate, unless it is a soft block, because the IP address will later be reallocated to a different, unrelated, and unsuspecting user, thereby impairing access to Wikipedia in an inappropriate fashion. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking. The best approach is to determine the CIDR IP numerical address range and make a higher-level decision to soft-block the entire range. http://www.arin.net/ (for approximately North America) and related sites can help to identify that range. Caution is advised when applying a range block as other Wikipedians, both registered and otherwise, may be affected.
Review contributions carefully if blocking this IP address or reverting its contributions. If a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block using Template:Anonblock. Network administrators, to monitor this IP address for vandalism, can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format. |
Shared IP Notices
[edit]Per WP:BLANKING, removal of shared IP notices is prohibited...TJH2018talk 00:33, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- I'm restoring some of the earlier talk page history. Apparently this person has a long-term beef with Quora and its personnel. - Wikidemon (talk) 00:38, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- The personnel have a long-term beef with everything Quora originally stood for, and we are seeing it left and right :) 183.83.5.231 (talk) 00:56, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
Original research
[edit](diff) Original research, for Wikipedia's purposes, is defined here. Please revert your edit. czar 19:12, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
Look, the fact that they were elected Top Writers is not in dispute here. If the relevant Quora pages are not considered authority enough, then does Quora even merit the lengthy Wikipedia page it has? Quora has to be the ultimate authority about Quora, if nothing else. 183.83.5.231 (talk) 19:40, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- That's not how this works. If their status as Top Writers mattered at all for a biographic encyclopedia entry, a reliable, secondary source would mention why that distinction is important. Otherwise we'd like every status distinction they ever received indiscriminately. Not about Quora's authority to make the distinction, but about whether the distinction matters enough to be mentioned. Please revert your edit. czar 20:23, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
Here are some secondary sources where Marc himself talks about the Top Writer program.

And then he makes himself, his wife and his mother Top Writers, much like Nero and Pierre de Coubertin gave themselves Olympic medals.

- This proves my point that if Bodnick's own distinction as a Top Writer mattered enough to mention, one source would say so. Since Bodnick speaks on behalf of Quora in these sources, I don't know where you would extract that his distinction as a Top Writer was something we needed to mention. If anything you'd say that he spoke on behalf of Quora about the Top Writers program, but I don't think that would be important either. czar 04:40, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
Do you have a reputed secondary source for the fragment "asking and answering questions on a wide range of technical as well as nontechnical subjects"? If not, would you consider that original research as well? 183.83.5.231 (talk) 05:12, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah—anything that doesn't have a source needs to be removed. Everything on WP needs to be verifiable (five pillars). czar 19:52, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Caballero1967. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Onam has been undone because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thrikkarappan is Vamana. Onathappan is Mahabali himself. 183.83.5.231 (talk) 05:00, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- @183.83.5.231: Thanks for the correction. A detailed edit summary always helps WP:ES. Caballero/Historiador ⎌ 05:59, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
AGF too, for what it is worth :) 183.83.5.231 (talk) 06:06, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- @183.83.5.231: looking at your brief, but intense record, it seems you are here to stay. So, it may help if for a while you stand on the other side of the fence too. I mean, in deterring vandalism. We all do the best we can. Believe me. But there are little things that bypass us. And this one, was easy to skip me. I have been on your side too. Even with an account name and with a well-proven record, I have been misinterpreted by well-intended guardians. But after helping to deter vandalism for two months, I understand them, and I do my best in showing all my cards. I write a detailed summary edit, provide sources, and if necessary (quite often) I write in the articles' talk pages. It is thus, not about lacking or missing out on AGF, but about little misses, that could be repaired with a short note like the one you left here. Thanks Caballero/Historiador ⎌ 06:20, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
I have more than 500 edits from various IP addresses since 2005 and a registered account as well. Edit wars are what turned me away from contributing more. Your response gives me hope. Cheers! 183.83.5.231 (talk) 10:15, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- You made my day. I hope I could make yours. Caballero/Historiador ⎌ 16:57, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

[edit]For a variety of behavioral and content reasons do not do this.[1][2][3] All content on the encyclopedia has to be [[WP:V|sourced] to reliable sources, which Quora and twitter gripes certainly are not. Your summary that lots of users are unhappy with Quora moderation of opinion, which even if sourced would constitute WP:SYNTH. When other editors disagree with your proposed changes, you are not supposed to edit war over them. Continuing to do so will either get the article or your account temporarily locked. Further, as a general matter of how to describe tech companies, complaining about the moderation on user-submitted content sites is pretty futile, it is just griping. If you want to do that, you can do it on Quora, or twitter. All of this stuff is covered in the welcome message that somebody kindly left on this talk page; if you have any further interest in editing the encyclopedia you'll find pointers there, and it would also be useful to create a signed-in account. Best, - Wikidemon (talk) 00:35, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- I've been editing Wikipedia since 2005, two years longer than you have. Your reversion of the so-called IP edits conveniently brings everything back to your last version. I suggest you revert to FeralOink's last version, restore any entries in Quora's Timeline that are still relevant (Credits have been abandoned now, a website adding video is not worthy of mention etc.), and let the Moderation section be. The co-founder of Wikipedia getting edit-blocked on Quora is significant, as is the fact that several Top Writers are getting banned (I can name at least five). 183.83.5.231 (talk) 00:45, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the update about the status of my edits to Quora. That page is kind of a mess, as there are so many editors with strong points of view. I have found that it is best to let it stew for awhile, allowing any high-spirited reverters to do what they want, then after a few weeks or months have elapsed, to return and make whatever corrections or changes that are necessary, in relative peace. Keep up the good work, and don't get discouraged!--FeralOink (talk) 03:25, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
