[edit]Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, 2009cATBOOK. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 03:16, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- @McMatter: Hi there. I think you forgot to state the reason for your COI claim. I'm trying to track this down and help, thanks. — Smuckola(talk) 00:58, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you violate Wikipedia's no original research policy by inserting unpublished information or your personal analysis into an article. Your talk page is a wall of warnings about a flagrant disregard of encyclopedic concepts. You need to stop editing altogether until you learn and accept what an encyclopedia is. It is not your weblog, your soapbox, or your newspaper. WP:NOT You keep inserting WP:OR with no WP:RS and just generally robotically spamming unencyclopedic content such as useless draft stubs, while disregarding all warnings and guidance. You can't create these articles, so please stop. You've even disregarded a warning about WP:COI. WP:COI and WP:OR are the most extreme violations possible. You obviously don't even care that it's all been deleted and obviously will continue to be deleted, at the waste of the time and energy of countless volunteers let alone of yourself. You're going to be reported to admins and users can be blocked for all of these behaviors. You absolutely must respond to the WP:COI warning. I scanned all your edits for anything salvageable as a basis for supporting your interests in an encyclopedic way, even a WP:RS, and I just can't. — Smuckola(talk) 00:32, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Serge, an Admin here on Wikipedia. I'm a little bit concerned about some of your conduct on Wikipedia.
- You've got a lot of warnings related to sourcing. This is concerning because so much of how Wikipedia functions is according to what sources say.
- Please follow WP:V and make sure you source all content you add to Wikipedia. I've seen you make multiple unsourced edits very recently, despite you showing in other edits that you know how to add sources. Please, use them every time.
- Please make more of an effort to make sure that your article creations/draft meet the WP:GNG. You shouldn't be having so many drafts be rejected like this.
- Additionally, Wikpedia is a collaborative project. When editors bring concerns to you, you have an obligation to discuss them. If things are brought to your attention, but you don't respond, its frustrating to editors, and it makes it look like you're not interested in following policies and guidelines around here.
Please try to improve on these ground. Too many issues without improvement can lead to your account being blocked from editing - either temporarily or indefinitely. So please start taking these talk page comments more seriously.
If you have questions, feel free to response here or at my talk page. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 18:09, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- I’ll do better research for sources in the future! 2009cATBOOK (talk) 21:51, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- Reliable secondary sources. WP:RS. Not commercial advertisements. Not Zillow or Redfin or whatever. You just now replied with "I’ll" with curly decorative punctuation, which is not allowed (MOS:CURLY). None of your drafts should have ever been published even as drafts, and should all be deleted. Rather, you should use your personal sandbox once you've determined that the subject is even notable (WP:N) according to a preponderance of reliable sources and substantial coverage within them, and not just fluff pieces of daily news written in passing (WP:NOTNEWS). Start with just finding reliable sources with substantial coverage of existing article content, like something that needs backup sources or that has a "citation needed" tag. Or, I see that you like some census data, so update those numbers and their sources (like the access-date if the same page content has been updated at the same URL), but only according to how it's been officially formatted by the Census Bureau and by the deeply experienced editors for that sacred public data. This has all wasted significant time and effort of volunteers as if you couldn't care less that your own time and effort is wasted while you constantly repeat it all.
- Nonetheless, the Wikipedia project is the world's largest disaster at luring new users under false pretenses of "anything goes", failing to orient new users, and then punishing everybody for it. — Smuckola(talk) 23:39, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- The first thing to do before editing anything is to address the WP:COI allegation above, here. Was that user referring to some drafts you made or is your username referencing some book you're affiliated with or what? I see you updated some census data with sources, but with the new mess of bare URLs right after I told you to update all the metadata, and you clearly know what that is from reading any Wikipedia article. You marked that as a minor edit for no reason, which it absolutely is not. A minor edit is an option for users to avoid receiving notifications about, like a truly trivial update of a typo or of metadata or of wording without changing any meaning. Ideally, the lead of any article will not have any citations at all, but this small article is a big work in progress that lacks a 2020 census section (WP:LEADCITE). This is called editorialization, where you took the word of one source and stated it in Wikipedia's voice as an objective fact without attribution. One should say "Source X called Y a Z." but I have no idea who that source is, whether it's a WP:RS, or why you cited them. WP:ATTRIBUTION You are not a level to be doing that, as I already told you. You should focus on being a perfect WP:WIKIGNOME. — Smuckola(talk) 01:31, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
I also have some concerns. At Lee's Summit, Missouri, you wrote, "In recent years, Lee's Summit has become one of the fastest growing cities in Missouri". You sourced your edit with a link to "Stacker". What are "recent years", and by "fastest growing" do you mean "fastest growing population", or is the city annexing its neighbors? Speaking of "its", with this edit did you mean "its"? Also, please stop adding bare URLs as references. Please consider making test edits to your sandbox, and then adding them to mainspace only when you are absolutely certain they are spelled correctly and are encyclopedic in tone. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:10, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Yes, WP:RECENTISM. I have never heard of Stacker and it does have an editorial staff, but I don't know any of their credentials. What I do know is that this editor has a long history of making WP:OR out of indiscriminate pure garbage sources like Zillow listings, for using Wikipedia as a personal weblog WP:NOTBLOG. So I doubt. WP:CIR — Smuckola(talk) 20:54, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- There is no such thing as "September of 2022" or 25th or Sunday, January 1, 2023 or anything like that. Date formats are MOS:DATE[4]. Now answer your COI allegation. — Smuckola(talk) 05:11, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- COI? I’m just going to log out and be done with the conformity of Wikipedia. As a former contributor to Emporis, I was respected and routinely promoted-but this is not the the same and I respectfully quit. 2009cATBOOK (talk) 16:28, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
