Hi again. Your three requests for proofreading and copyediting were flagged up on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors (WP:GOCE) category listing. I see you have already copyedited the lead section of Cricket in Ireland, and it's a big improvement on the previous version. As I said above in the standard welcome message, you would be very welcome here and, based on what you've already done, I think you would be a good contributor as a member of WP:GOCE.
Do please think about it and ask any questions you like. If you want to ask me anything, you can do that here or at my talk page. Best wishes and thanks again for your good work. PearlyGigs (talk) 14:58, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, PearlyGigs. My IP address has shifted since the 20th but this is still me. Thanking you for the welcome messages but being a member is not something I would be intending to do. It looks as if you are relatively new to the site and I wonder if you are aware that it has people like this in positions of "power"? I like the concept and I will occasionally take part, but I will not enrol in something which allows people like that to hold a responsible position. All the same, thanking you for asking.
Yes, I did what I could with the opening section of the Ireland piece and I am glad you think it passes muster. I see you have been trying to repair the 1726/50 piece but I am believing I would be right in thinking you lack the sources? Well, I do have many of the sources. Not all, but enough to deal with all those needing citation sentences.
So, I have been WP:BOLD and I have at least converted the piece into something resembling an article instead of a dumping ground for assorted extracts. It can be enlarged, to be sure, but I think it has now a sound basis. On the question of if it should stop at 1740 or go on to 1750, I favour the latter because the Laws and Single Wicket both need a 1740s resolution.
One good thing about Wikipedia is no deadlines, so if this gets left for a whole year before anyone adds anything else to it, no matter.
Thanking you again for picking this up and for giving it some structure. Beir bua! 78.144.173.132 (talk) 14:34, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, there. Sorry for late reply (work!). Great to read your messages and see big improvements to that article. It's a pity you can't join but I fully understand your position. I've only skimmed the report just now. It doesn't surprise me, and I can foresee ranks closing if it should become an issue. Not good.
I have few cricket books, I'm afraid. My sport is football. I'll keep a watch on these articles, though. Might be best if you write me on my talk page in case anyone else should get this IP address.
All the best. 👍 PearlyGigs (talk) 04:22, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
