There has been some creeping-in of minor regional wines and talk of adding regions such as Napa to the list. You may want to weigh in with your opinion :-) --Mikebrand 18:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, I didn't realize that your signature was now Agne(wine/cheese). I did think it quite a coincidence that two users with Agne in their handle were into wine. I even did a wiki search to see who Agne was. --Mikebrand 01:45, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commandaria GA

[edit]

Hi and thanks for the invite. I will try and work a bit on the article Cyprus wine. Maybe we can get that one up to GA status too, and who knows even FA status one day. I will try and rally User:Georgeg, but i know he's a bit lazy... StephP 08:35, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Agnes27

I was surprised to find this page about my father. I know there was some pages on the web telling of is trip to Napa valley (California) years ago revealing the upcoming of american top quality wines, and other pages when sworn in the "Confrérie des Bons Entonneurs Rabelaisiens".

I just want to ask you what had motivated you to do so ? Best regards Millot 14:48, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Motivation? He was a judge at one of most influential wine events of the last century. He certainly merits a Wikipedia entry. AgneCheese/Wine 15:04, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the great additions to the article. I don't think that I possibly could have added so much so quickly. It's nice to know that the project has people like you that really know their stuff. I've gone and nominated something from the article for Did you know. The Bethling(Talk) 18:11, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For transforming Chaptalization from a stub to an article worthy of such a important and historical topic in such a short amount of time. The Bethling(Talk) 18:11, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow. Thanks. Yeah, I was immensely surprised that fellow wine project members didn't think the topic merits it own article. But then I realized that it is a topic that is mostly an "insider term" that your average wine drinker may not be aware of. So I figure it was a good opportunity as any to shed some light on this important concept. Thank you again and BTW, you really did a great service to the wine project with setting up those wine stubs. It was a tremendous help. AgneCheese/Wine 18:17, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Farm Winery

[edit]

I'm not sure if you got to see the comment I left on this page so I'll put it here and see what you think. I would like to keep them separate and I'll take it upon myself to properly write the articles if we decide that we think the articles should stay separate. As always I am open to opinions though. I'll be away for the weekend so I won't be able to reply back to you unitl probably Monday. Have a Happy Easter, thak you for the Brotherhood winery label as well. --Christopher Tanner, CCC 14:15, 7 April 2007 (UTC)tanner-christopher[reply]

I am not sure I agree with this merge because the Farm Winery is a specific legal definition used for wineries in the United States that can sell wines on premise. That is what the Farm Winery Law of 1976 in New York was created for specifically. Unless this is a designation used for wineries all over the world I think it may be better kept separate, I could be convinced though if someone feels otherwise. Either way both articles need quite a bit of work. --Christopher Tanner, CCC 03:53, 7 April 2007 (UTC)tanner-christopher
Well if you sincerely believe that the article can be expanded beyond a stub then we can drop merge request. However, I think we can mention some of the legality issues and the New York law within a sub section of the Winery article. AgneCheese/Wine 12:24, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hrm, perhaps Farm Winery could be placed within Winery and a redirect could be done from Farm Winery to Winery. It hink that would be better because people are more likely to "happen upon" farm winery than to actually be looking it up.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 13:46, 9 April 2007 (UTC)tanner-christopher[reply]

Beaujolais

[edit]

Hi, just saw that you uploaded the picture of the glass of Beaujolais for its page. It had no caption, but I though it might be nice to say "a glass of Beaujolais from..." or "a (year) Beaujolais" rather than just the obvious. Thanks! VanTucky 04:58, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I don't know the year or producer but the original photographer noted it was a Beaujolais nouveau so I will note that. AgneCheese/Wine 05:36, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review on "Leonard Orban"

[edit]

Thanks for your review on "Leonard Orban" and thanks also for passing the article. I have tried to solve the problem with the photos. There is a more general problem with photos from the EU in Wikipedia. I believe the more close examination of the legal notices of the EU institutions leads to fair use tags, but in other EU photos the users have chosen a "this file has been released into the public domain by the copyright holder" (Image:Louis Michel.jpg) or "The copyright holder of this file allows anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that the copyright holder is properly attributed. Redistribution, derivative work, commercial use, and all other use is permitted." (Image:Stavros Dimas.jpg) Anyway, I believe we need here some legal advice and the issue should be dealt from users experienced with images. Any suggestions on this are more than welcome. Thanks again. --Michkalas 09:29, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I do believe that the current culture on Wikipedia errs on the side of paranoia more so then on solid legal footing. Considering the importance of images to building a quality encyclopedia, I am surprised that the Wikipedia Foundation has not invested legal resources into hammering out a truly comprehensive and detail guideline on images that relates to images worldwide. Hopefully the new legal counsel that will replace Brad will make it a priority. AgneCheese/Wine 09:37, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Chaptalization

[edit]

The article Chaptalization you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Chaptalization for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a review.

The above is an automated notice, but personally, I would like to add I really appreciate the amount of work you put into improving the coverage of wine-related topics in Wikipedia. I hope this will not discourage or distress you, but rather help you further improve this and other articles. Cheers, PrinceGloria 21:44, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal revert - thanks

[edit]

When I saw an edit from you on my talk page, I thought it was a WikiProject Wine newsletter (good job on those, by the way!). But then I saw it was a revert of some vandalism. Thanks for that, but it's hopeless. This is an an AOL vandal who vandalizes userpages and user talk pages in rapid succession. It turns out that AOL is a perfect ISP from which to vandalize anonymously. Every time an AOL user accesses Wikipedia, AOL assigns a different IP address! So an AOL user can make 20 vandal edits from a dozen different IP addresses. Very frustrating. I've had my userpage semi-protected, but it looks like the talk page will have to go that way too. -Amatulic 16:50, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I had your talk page on my watchlist due to the newsletter and the edit caught my eye. I know we'll never vanquish IP vandalism but reverting their edits quickly after they done them does diminish a lot of their "fun". AgneCheese/Wine 17:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Office Depot Revert

[edit]

I was wondering if you could explain to me why you reverted my edits to Office Depot. Based on the discussion the talk page, I was under the assumption that information like that would be legitimate. Granted, I could have phrased it differently. --Amaraiel 01:27, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was pitched as an advertisement for the technology that Office Depot sells which has little, if any, encyclopedic merit for an article about the company. As I said in the edit summary, if there was independent third party sources that commented on some unique aspect (like first US retailer to sell Lenovo, etc) then that would merit inclusion with that third party source. AgneCheese/Wine 04:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. I appreciate your input.

WP:WINE Newsletter

[edit]

Hello, I was referred to you by another WP:WINE participant in my query regarding the organization/deployment of the WP:WINE newsletter, as I am interested in creating a similar system for a wikiproject I am in. If you could inform me of how you've set up the Wine wikiproj system (is it automatic, etc), I'd be most obliged. Thanks for your time. Sincerily, David Fuchs (talk / frog blast the vent core!) 01:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately it's not automated. It's all good ole fashion cut n paste. I suppose that someone with more code-savy could come up with a bot to make it automated. If the wine project grows to 100+ members, I may ardently look for such a person because hand delivering the newsletter can be a bit tedious. AgneCheese/Wine 05:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One thing that might make it easier is for you to set up a mailing list for folks like me who can be emailed, and who give permission. The email would contain a link to the most recent newsletter.
Another suggestion is to ask participants to put the newsletter in their watchlist. I have done this, so there's no need for you to post announcements on my talk page. If I see a change from you in my watchlist, I'll read it. -Amatulic 21:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
bugger. I was hoping it was magically easier than I hoped. ;) Problem is with the wikiproject I've got there's a lot of inactive members, but something like 130 in total. I want to do a roll call, and I was hoping there was some easy way... Still, thanks for the help. Good day, David Fuchs (talk / frog blast the vent core!) 22:19, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAC backlog elimination drive

[edit]

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:16, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leaf Images

[edit]

Dear Agne

My name is Patrick Bous. Sorry for my bad english, I'm not a native speaker. You saw probably my name in the french or german wikipedia where I'm working on wine related subjects. I saw your nice pictures of grape leafs. See you any problem to copy them on the commons as I would like to use them in the french/german articles? Best regards from Belgium -- 217.79.216.190 15:04, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admittedly, I'm not very knowledgeable with the workings of Commons so I try to avoid it. I certainly wouldn't object to them being copied there and I did give free license for their use. If you want to load them, by all means, feel free to use them as you wish. AgneCheese/Wine 23:07, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bollinger edit Q

[edit]

Agne,

I'd like to open a discussion about improving the lead for the Wiki Bollinger page. You removed some of the detail from the lead quite a while ago. [[1]]. I think some of the detail should be added back, in the interest of having the most useful article. I'll open the discussion on the Bollinger discussion page.Veritasjohn 20:57, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll respond there. AgneCheese/Wine 23:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agne27 - I've done quite a bit of work on the bollinger page since the last real discussion. However, there seems to be no way that I can figure out about how to have the article re-assessed. It is currently rated as Start Class, even though it contains more detail, and more sources than most other champagne pages which are rated more favorably. How can I initiate a re-evaluation? Maybe I just don't know how to use wiki well enough. Please advise. I too put a lot of work into pages hoping to have them reach higher levels of review. Hi Agne27. You are off to such a great start on the article Texas wine that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. Appearing on the Main Page would help bring publicity to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. St. Louis "Cards"

[edit]

Hi Agne. Can we talk about this instead of getting into a revert war? I am not saying that you need to unquestioningly accept the solution that we agreed to on the WikiProject page; I just meant to alert you that a discussion was ongoing, and that you are invited to participate in it rather than reverting everything I do. Although you accused me of "undue deletion of encyclopedic content", in fact I did not delete the name "Cards" from the Cardinals page. It is still in the infobox, not directly under the team name at the top (which was a kludgy solution anyway that didn't fit well with the infobox template) but lower down under the heading "other nicknames". Furthermore, the name "Cards" is prominently mentioned in the article's lead paragraph, due to its common usage and (as you mentioned) endorsement by the team itself. Please let me proceed with this task of cleaning up the MLB team pages. If you continue to have a disagreement with what I'm doing, please contribute to the WikiProject discussion. Thanks. --Tisco 01:21, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. [edit]

Hi Agne27. You are off to such a great start on the article Terapon Adhahn that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. Thanks for the heads-up. My added comments are on the AfD. Realkyhick 08:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this. The simplicity and brevity of the writing cuts through the confusion and highlights the real differences, which are all to easily elided on English Wikipedia, between being a second-hand newspaper reporter and beng an encyclopedist. --Tony Sidaway 01:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I noticed that exact diff, and came here to thank you for posting it. It is, in my opinion, a very piercing, cogent, and relevant argument that I hope is and/or remains relevant to the inclusion of biographical material on the English-language Wikipedia. --Iamunknown 21:13, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both for the nice note. I know that Ty and Crum's hearts are in the right place. I hope that we can steer them towards working on improving the Svidersky section in Mourning sickness and eventually come to a satisfying compromise.AgneCheese/Wine 00:18, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for leaving a note. I still don't think this article deserves to be a page title. There are worse things on Wikipedia, but this article is a good example of a growing problem -- namey people creating memorial MySpaces. Mitch 20:02, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good mourning

[edit]

I think the new article is a good solution. Thanks! >Radiant< 08:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to both of you for the nice words. I'd like to find a pleasing compromise for everyone involved. I believe there is some encyclopedic relevance and benefit to Wikipedia for mention of what happened. Unfortunately the current Anna Svidersky article just cross the memorial line too much to stay focused on the important items. Hopefully the Mourning sickness article can grow and benefit from the AfD. AgneCheese/Wine 09:09, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Agne, the mourning sickness article is off to a great start! I really appreciate whenever someone takes the time to seek a third way (other than keep or delete) to solve a problem at Afd. In the case of Anna Svidersky, however, I still don't think there's a valid reason to delete. I'd love to see your mourning sickness article be the main article for this topic, and then have events like the Anna Svidersky meme link from it. Some people say the Anna article is a memorial -- but I think it's a well-sourced article about a notable online memorial and is therefore encyclopedic. So I continue to support keeping Anna Svidersky, but I also support your article and if mourning sickness ever comes up for deletion, please let me know. --JayHenry 14:41, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note Jay. If you have an opportunity would you give me you thoughts about this version of the Svidersky article. I tried to trim all the trivial and non-encyclopedic details that make the article seem more like an memorial then an article. Let me know what you think. Nice work on the mourning sickness article! Jmm6f488 01:57, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wine tasting

[edit]

Hi Agne! Maybe it's the weather – dull, rainy day here today – that's inspired me to copyedit the Wine tasting article, or perhaps I'm just feeling a little masochistic.. reading through, I'm struck by the {{Unreferencedsection}} tag on the Grape Varieties section. You added this with a note that it was from the main wine page, but I can't see a trace of it there. Any idea where it came from? True to form, all Google brings up is a raft of sites quoting Wikipedia.. also, while you're there, would you mind looking to give me your opinion on those recent and more long-standing external links? It's a spam magnet, for sure, but I can't seem to differentiate these. Thanks in advance, mikaultalk 12:51, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like USER:Miskwito added the unreferenced tag on July 28th though I would agree with it. It is somewhat ORish and I'm sure you can find some reliable source with a similar type chart. If I recall correctly, it was probably part of the massive wine article before I moved some of the splinter sections out. I'm not sure where it originally came but I have a feeling it was a compilation with users adding their own terms and descriptions. You certainly have your work cut out for you with this article. As for the external links, I personally think all the current links should go and be replaced with some more worthwhile and a little less commercial. AgneCheese/Wine 15:11, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. If that's the case, each grape descriptor will need its own citation, as I'm unlikely to find a source with descriptors corresponding with the collection we have there. Seems like an impossible task, unless I replace all of them with those from a single secondary source.. thanks for the pointers; I realize it's an uphill task but at the very least I might be able to knock it into shape a little. I'll get Googling :o) mikaultalk 17:02, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The RfC notification you posted to editors has a title with the link Anna Svidersky. This is a redirect to Mourning sickness, so that is a bit confusing. One editor has already posted to Talk:Mourning sickness instead of Talk:Anna Svidersky. Tyrenius 23:52, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Anna Svidersky part deux II

Could you give me a quick rundown on what is being disputed and an overview of the different sides of the debate. Thanks, Jmm6f488 02:02, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a fair request. Are you short on time or something?--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 02:13, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies to everyone for this notification being sent out so late, events in real life prevented me from distributing it at the time, and the Wine Project's had a bit of a lull during the Northern Hemsiphere summer. But as the nights draw in, activity should pick up again, and hopefully the next Newsletter will arrive a little more quickly....

The next few weeks are the perfect time to take photos of grapes in the Northern Hemisphere - get your cameras out!

PS AWB rocks for doing the Newsletter distribution :-))) Hope you don't mind me sending this old one out like this - better late than never, and should wake a few people up. I've also tweaked the above template a little bit, to make the link more intuitive FlagSteward 15:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No offense taken at putting in the proper link for the category. I'm fairly new here, so I always appreciate help and guidance. I learn something new everyday. VirginiaProp 19:18, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's the protocol for moving a page after there seems to have been a fair discussion. There are four in favor and 2 against. Does an administrator make the move or should I, as initiator, make the move? I'm a bit new and try not to step on too many toes. VirginiaProp 15:10, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since there are some opposers, it is considered a "controversial" move so it would be best to let an admin close the discussion and make the move.AgneCheese/Wine 16:21, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
