Speedy deletion nomination of Box of Seals

[edit]

Hello Anthony Seldon,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Box of Seals for deletion, because it doesn't seem to have any encyclopedic content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Gbawden (talk) 13:57, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you, it is a Work in Progress. Anthony Seldon (talk) 13:58, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Any work in progress should be developed in your sandbox, or as a sub-page in your user space. I have moved the article to User:Anthony Seldon/Box of seals for you to work on at your leisure without worrying about some oaf coming along and deleting it. ~Amatulić (talk) 14:17, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Seal Transportation has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not a good faith article creation - see editor history

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:15, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have objected, and, I do not have a dubious history as you claim. Anthony Seldon (talk) 15:23, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, your history is perfectly clean – because you wipe the vandalism warnings from it (as you're entirely entitled to do). However don't pretend to other editors that you're blameless. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:26, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about me as a person? I do not like this sort of slur! Anthony Seldon (talk) 15:29, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Retaliatory edits

[edit]

Hi,

I appreciate that it's unpleasant for your work to be nominated for deletion. However, it is never a good idea to take this personally. In particular, I've closed the retaliatory AfD you raised at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Warm glass and deleted User:Anthony Seldon/AD diffs, an attack page devoted to the editor who nominated your article for deletion. I've left a comment to the effect that User:Anthony Seldon/Box of seals is a valid work page on its own deletion discussion and advised the nominating editor to step back.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding these actions or other areas of Wikipedia process. Thanks. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 15:40, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Scotpina and CheckUser

[edit]

As you might already have seen, Scotpina has been exposed as a sock/meat/random coincidence of Shanker Pur, and unrelated to your account.

In which case, mea culpa I apologise sincerely for implying that you might have been the sockmaster behind these three accounts.

Things haven't got off to a great start so far, but I note your tobacco pouch article with interest – I was actually about to remove the prod on it, but you beat me to it. This looks like a good topic for an article and I wish you luck with it. The idea of forged tobacco pouches as an aid to tobacco smuggling was particularly interesting. I hope that we can have more productive editing interactions in the future. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:06, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's interesting how some mundane items have an encyclopedic value. The tobacco pouch article reminded me of the wine list article I wrote some years back.
I added a picture. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:56, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Andy,

Thank you for letting me know. I agree we did get off to a bad start, but let us put that in the past - and I also look forward to a positive editing future on this encyclopedia. I am glad you like the tobacco pouch article - and thank you User:Amatulic for adding the image.

Seal Boxer (talk) 10:39, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A cup of tea for you!

Tobacco pouch is looking alright. I also regret what I've said about you, and I look forward to working with you in the future. BDD (talk) 20:59, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

did you know?

[edit]

Animal transportation is potentially a great article, but some of the very specific "how to" information needs to go, and a bit more of a focus on general principles is necessary. I've take the liberty of restructuring a little to address concerns in the deletion discussion. -- 202.124.72.13 (talk) 09:42, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You should probably respond here and discuss what was raised above before simply adding information back in because you like it. I like it too, and the source is good, but the language used is totally inappropriate and almost textbook WP:NOTHOWTO stuff. You need to avoid words like "should", "must" "do" and "don't" and use words like "have", "will" and include examples of what people have done rather than your opinion about what people should do (even if cited to reliable sources). Wikipedia is not an instruction manual. President of the United States provides history and technical facts about the role, not an instruction manual for future presidents - "as President, you should take care not to...". Yeah? I'm going to undo your addition but feel free to give it another crack with better language. Stalwart111 10:02, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for your messages. I see what you mean - I consider that information about tapirs to be valid and well researched, but I will try and rephrase it without it sounding like an instruction manual. I was just a bit sad that so much useful information about transporting tapirs was to be removed. Thanks. Seal Boxer (talk) 10:19, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please refer to the first point of WP:NOTHOW for advice on how to rephrase the text, or for other venues which might be more appropriate to submit the text as originally written. —Psychonaut (talk) 10:27, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Psychonaut's advice is spot on. The information is valid and is well-researched, it's just written in a manner that's different to how we usually present information here. It was removed for that reason and was removed again on the same basis. Rephrase it and you should be fine. You can even propose a form of words on the article talk page if you're a bit unsure. Stalwart111 10:48, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, flagrant breaches of WP:NOTHOW are just going to get the article deleted, which I'm sure you don't want (although the AfD discussion is currently running 11:5 in favor of "keep"). The current article (with no active "problem" tags) is a good basis to build on. There are also concerns in the AfD discussion about the species-by-species approach. Speaking personally, transport of seals, orcas, and giraffes seems interesting, but I'm hazy on why the transport of tapirs is notable, and the deleted tapir material never quite explained why. On the other hand, we could use a lot more material on the history of animal transportation, and on animals like monkeys being shipped for research (this would also be an opportunity to mention transport of animals as a disease vector, as in Reston virus). -- 202.124.73.2 (talk) 12:00, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Try to keep the information about classification of tapirs in the tapir article, not in Animal transportation, okay? Thanks, Ansh666 19:14, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ansh is right. I've re-added the Tapir material but without some of the irrelevant stuff and have added more animals. Am working on some others. The problem at the moment is that the article includes a bizarrely short list of animals and some seem convinced it can't/won't be expanded. We need to demonstrate otherwise by expanding it and expanding it cleverly and in line with policy. Stalwart111 03:31, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
