Information icon Hello, I'm JeffSpaceman. I noticed that you recently removed content from The Aquinas Institute of Rochester without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did at The Aquinas Institute of Rochester, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. I was blocked from editing the Aquinas Institute Wikipedia page. I believe this is in error. I am updating the Notable Alumni section to keep the Aquinas Institute page up-to-date. Please remove this block. Aqinstitute (talk) 18:50, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to file a formal appeal of your block, carefully following the instructions in the block notice below. Cullen328 (talk) 19:39, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Following the instructions to get my account unblocked:
  1. I am not receiving any compensation for my contributions to this page
  2. I understand that I was blocked because you believed my contributions were for advertisement/promotions purposes (however, this is not true)
  3. The only contributions I intend to make are updating the notable alumni section with recent alumni. I am trying to keep the information accurate and most up-to-date on the Aquinas Institute Wikipedia page
  4. I will gladly create a new username. How about Brett1127.Aqinstitute (talk) 12:32, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Bbb23 (talk) 18:37, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I would like to update the Wikipedia page on Aquinas Institute so that the information is accurate and up-to-date. For example, the logo was displaying an "old" out-of-date logo. So I replaced it with the new logo.

Decline reason:

No answer to my questions below in a week. Feel free to submit a new unblock request which answers those questions. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:33, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What is your connection with the Institute? You must have one since you claim that you personally created the logo and you personally own the copyright to it. Note that "paid editing" does not require specific payment for edits(otherwise every paid editor would deny being specifically paid to edit); employment in any capacity counts. 331dot (talk) 12:48, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I work at the school. I am only trying to update our Alumni list with relevant, up-to-date alumni. Again, all I want is to keep this page accurate. If you would prefer, I can send you a list and you can pick and choose which to list on the page? Aqinstitute (talk) 14:24, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you work at the school, you are a paid editor, and must make the Terms of Use-required disclosure.
Alumni sections of schools/colleges are for those with Wikipedia articles, not a place for the school to itself list all the alumni it considers important, that should be done on the school website. You linked outside websites in a manner seeming like spam, perhaps you mean to write a reference(see referencing for beginners) but again, this shouldn't be done unless the subject has a Wikipedia article about them.
Unrelated- but you'll also have to go to Commons and request deletion of the logo you uploaded(if it hasn't been already) as I assume you did not personally create it and that the school owns the copyright to it. Logos are typically uploaded to this Wikipedia locally under "fair use" rules(see WP:UPIMAGE). 331dot (talk) 14:37, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, sorry about that and thanks! I will only update the alumni list with alumni who have a Wikipedia article about him/her. I believe there was one or two. In regards to the Aquinas Institute Logo, can you help me update with the most current logo? I am unsure how to do this. The logo is displayed on the website (so you can verify it is correct) and I also have the logo able to upload but I want to make sure I follow the rules so as not to get blocked. This is all very confusing. Aqinstitute (talk) 15:07, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please be aware of the conflict of interest policy. Best practices are described there. Do you intend to make any contributions unrelated to the institute? 331dot (talk) 15:25, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not intend to make any contributions unrelated to the Aquinas Institute. Aqinstitute (talk) 15:32, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Am I able to get this account unblocked now? Or what else do you need from me? Thanks! Aqinstitute (talk) 14:09, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies that this took a month; all administrators are volunteers. Because you work for the school, you need to follow the directions at the guideline about conflicts of interests and the paid editing disclosure policy. In particular, you should follow the edit request process to make contributions.
To ensure that you understand this, please answer the following in your own words:
  1. How will you disclose your conflict of interest?
  2. Are you considered a paid editor by Wikipedia?
  3. If you are unblocked, I will block you from directly editing The Aquinas Institute of Rochester. However, you will be able to use the edit request process at Talk:The Aquinas Institute of Rochester. Is this okay with you?
