Welcome!

Hello, Arnold Reisman, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome!

  • Sorry you've had a bit of a baptism of fire here. General opinion at WP:ANI seems to be that your editing was more a case of not understanding what Wikipedia is (and, more importantly, what it is not) than intentional vandalism. Please read the linked pages in this welcome notice which will give you a better understanding of Wikipedia. 08:31, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Arnold Reisman at the Encounters on the Bosphorous Symposium Wroclaw-Krzyzowa Poland 28-30 September 2007, Marek Pedziwol.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:06, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to Ephesus. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Please see also the WP:COI policy Old Moonraker (talk) 21:05, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, as you did with this edit to Leyla Gencer. Thank you. Katieh5584 (talk) 21:07, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding this material across so many articles can only be regarded as spamming and has been reverted. --Old Moonraker (talk) 21:09, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dr. Reisman

[edit]

If you have the marked the pages you just edited on your watch list (that way you get to see what changes get made) you will notice that I made changes in what you had posted in three articles. What I did was called “wikification” and it was putting your book reference in the proscribed Wikipedia format. Which puts reference in footnotes at the end of the article. I was surprised to see you show up on three articles that I had bookmarked and was delighted to find your edits. A note of wikicaution. There are editors who object to having identical text show up in different articles, so they may appear, hopefully not. Also it is a good idea to include page numbers, even p. 1 – 275 if need be, because another editor might appear and request them.
On a personal note I am intrigued by your book and as an amateur but very dedicated sculpture historian (with a daughter living in Turkey) I am about to try and interlibrary loan the work since, unfortunately it is out of my current price range. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 17:43, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Arnold. I don't know how you did it but you posted a message in my archived discussion page. I did not know it could be done, but it showed up on my watchlist anyway. For the record, I am Einar Einarsson Kvaran and I live in Dixon NM, USA. A lot of what I've done over the last few decades is hinted at here. [1] I am currently trying to post my library at a website called Library Thing - now that I think of it, not a bad place for authors, who are all the place there. life is supposed to be interesting and it is. FDR, etc.

[edit]

Come to WP:ANI, where I'm logging a complaint about your editing. You can't use wikipedia to promote your book. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots03:51, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits were deleted for a number of reasons: the sources are from self-published books, which are not considered to be a reliable source and they appear to be original research. In addition, they are self-promotional. Also note that simultaneously editing under an account name such as User:Arnold Reisman and IP addresses (69.212.158.14 and 69.212.157.183) is also against the rules (see WP:sockpuppetry), and that editors should be very careful about editing articles on subjects on which they have a conflict of interest, which is certaily the case in regard to the article Arnold Reisman. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:52, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, to clear up some confusion - when editing Wikipedia articles, do not use the four tildes that "sign" your username and a date-timestamp. Only use this for signing your comments on talk pages. Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:35, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More comments have been entered at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Arnold_Reisman_book_self-promotion. You are welcome to make your case there. Binksternet (talk) 16:43, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppetry

[edit]

Please review the Wikipedia policy on WP:sockpuppetry. As the holder of an account you need to edit under that account name, and not use IP addresses such as User:69.212.159.248 to make your edits. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:58, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigation

I have filed a sockpuppet report here. If you wish to comment, please use the link to get there. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:14, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for spamming or advertising. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. A reminder that it is against Wikipedia's policies for a blocked editor to edit using an IP address. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:41, 1 June 2010 (UTC)C[reply]

It is equally impermissible for a blocked editor to create a new account in order to edit. A blocked editor is not allowed to edit. If you wish to be unblocked, please follow the instructions on the block statement, do not try to edit using either IP addresses or accounts. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:27, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What does "blocked" mean?

[edit]

I see that even after my warning above, you tried to edit the Arnold Reisman article using the account User:BandGwolf, which leads me to believe that you do not understand what "blocked" means on Wikiupedia. Your account has been blocked indefinitely by a Wikipedia administrator. This means that you may not edit Wikipedia for the duration of your block. You may not edit it using an IP address, and you may not edit it by creating a new account. Until you are unblocked, the only place on Wikipedia you can edit is this page. If you would like to be unblocked, then you should follow the instructions above on the block notice and file an unblock request, and an administrator will respond. Until such time as you are unblocked, please do not try to edit the article about you, or any other place on Wikipedia, as your edits will be reverted as soon as they are discovered.

I hope that is clear, and that you will follow Wikipedia's procedures from here on out. Beyond My Ken (talk) 02:50, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, a reminder

[edit]

It is a violation of Wikipedia policy for a blocked editor to create a new account in order to edit. I have warned you about this before (see above), and I do so know in regard to the edits of the new user User:Fusion is the future. At this point, I will revert your edits to the article Arnold Reisman, but will hold off on reverting your edits to other articles. If, however, you continue to edit using this new name, I will revert all those edits as well, as being the edits of a block-evading sockpuppet.

There is only one way for you to continue editing here, and creating new sockpuppets every few months is not it. You must request an unblock to this account, admitting to your past behavior, and pledging to edit according to Wikipedia policy inthe future.
