Huaxiaosaurus

[edit]

Hello Ashorocetus, I noticed you thanked me for my work on Huaxiaosaurus. I couldn't find where you added it, as it wasn't on any of my pages. I just wanted to say your welcome as I appreciate you noticing. For future reference I would like to know where you put your messages to me.Reid, iain james (talk) 23:18, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dongyangosaurus, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mongolian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

We need to talk

[edit]

For like a couple of years now I've been intermittantly working on a series of articles about fossil eggs in my user space. I planned to nominate them for a multi-article DYK that would end up in the Hall of Fame. Those sorts of nominations are time sensitive. Within 5 days of creating the article they have to be nominated. The fossil egg article you just created has the same title as one I was going to create. So basically, I was wondering if you wanted to help me out and be my co-nominator for a DYK Hall of Fame winning hook. Abyssal (talk) 13:13, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would be glad to help you in any way I can. You'll have to tell me what to do, 'cause I'm new here and don't really understand how to do much. Ashorocetus (talk) 15:26, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you know how you merged Dinosaur egg and fossil egg? Please split those back up, I have a bunch of stuff to add to each article. Abyssal (talk) 19:50, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't heard back from you so I got worried, but I see you've already resplit the articles. Thanks! That's a big help. I'll try to finish the revamping and DYK nomination before the weekend. Talk to you later. Abyssal (talk) 01:54, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've nominated our articles for DYK. :) Abyssal (talk) 18:53, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks for your awesome work. 97.121.235.161 (talk) 21:06, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ashorocetus

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Please note that an article is still uncategorized, and will still need to be retagged as such again, if the category you add to it is a redlink (which means it does not exist to have articles added to it). You need to either find and use a category that exists, or leave the uncategorized tag alone until somebody else finds and uses a category that exists. Thanks. WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

[edit]
One of Adam Cuerden’s several quality restorations during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by Connecticut Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by Denmark MPJ-DK (submissions), Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), and New South Wales Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by There's always time for skeletons Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with Lancashire J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Hi Ashorocetus. Thank you for your DYK review of Planned Parenthood. Because of my skillset I do not feel qualified to go solo on a through DYK review. I guess I could give it a shot and then let others participate and fill in my blanks? Please advise. Ping me back. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 07:18, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Checkingfax. Yes, doing a DYK review for the first time is daunting, but it's not actually as hard as it looks. I'd say give it a shot, and if you're not confident you did it correctly, drop me (or another user who's done multiple DYK reviews) a message and I'll look it over and fill in anything you may have missed. Ashorocetus (talk | contribs) 14:09, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ashorocetus. Thank you for your reply. I was looking at my DYK portfolio, and as one hook was pulled from the queue for bringing negativity to a living person, am I still at the bright line of 5 for the QPQ exemption? If a hook is pulled from the queue can it be resubmitted or has the 7-day clock run out? Ping me back. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 18:00, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Checkingfax. Looking carefully at the rules, its not at all clear. If you are not confident that you can do a QPQ, I would ask someone who knows more about the system whether or not you are exempt. As for resubmitting pulled hooks, I've never seen anything on that specifically, but it seems like the 7-day clock running out would preclude it from being submitted again. Ashorocetus (talk | contribs) 04:34, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Checkingfax. OK, so I looked again, and I found this: "However, people who have made fewer than five DYK nominations, are not required to do another review." So you would be exempt since not all of your credits are your own nominations. Ashorocetus (talk | contribs) 13:13, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Ashorocetus. Thank you for digging in. After things ease up for me I will do some QPQ regardless of the exemption, but I am happy to know my lack of QPQ will not slow down this nomination. For full disclosure, I also have Jozef Raskin in the DYK nomination stage, as the nominator. Cheers! PS: Firefox spellcheck suggests your username is actually Shortcrust. {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 16:46, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
