Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
|
---|
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping! |

Hey Benzband. We've just rolled out a new version of the VisualEditor :). Changes and patches include:
Those are the big ones; more coming at the end of this week or early next week :). It's a short list, but the load issue took up a lot of time, as did TemplateData, and are both pretty big changes. If you've got any questions, drop them on my talkpage. Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 01:19, 4 July 2013 (UTC) |

Hey Benzband! We've just deployed some fixes to the VisualEditor. These include:
In the meantime, testing is proceeding well, and hopefully we can get some more fixes out over the next couple of days. If you're interested in helping out, we have a set of open tasks we'd really appreciate your assistance with :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 07:57, 9 July 2013 (UTC) |

Hey Benzband We just deployed another VisualEditor release; bugs fixed include:
Not specific bugs, but other things; cacheing is now improved, so people should stop seeing temporary breaking when the VisualEditor updates, and RTL support has received some patches. I hope this newsletter is helpful to people; I'll send out another one with the next deployment :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:06, 11 July 2013 (UTC) |

Thanks for reaching out
[edit]I just wanted to see if I can get some help with a page that just got deleted, WHILE i was asking for help in the teahouse. We had the content and were searching for experienced editors to help with the new information. Also it took years to get this person online and he pioneered Open Source to the enterprise level (if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have wiki) etc. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! Thanks (Shadesofrespect (talk) 04:24, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi! Only administrators can delete or undelete articles, so if you wish to retrieve the content of the deleted article then we must contact one.
- If you already have a copy of the article available then I suggest creating a draft (say, at User:Shadesofrespect/Eren Niazi would be fine) so that we can make necessary improvements without risking deletion.
- The subject must be notable, otherwise the article will get deleted; and the article must be neutral and verifiable, with facts that are supported by references to reliable third-party sources, not original research. Also, if you haven't already, you may want to take a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Regards, benzband (talk) 12:48, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
I contacted kudpung regarding this matter. I have a copy of the article as well as the OLD code, as this person was on Wikipedia for years (in its entirety) from which i was adding information to. The only thing I needed help with was the third-party sources to some additional information added as well as ability to add images for the patents, as he has 6 current. I am actually seeking an experienced editor to hire so we can remedy this as soon as possible. :) So I guess from here I should create the draft to have any editors help with this. Btw, if you are game, would love your help. Just let me know what I need to provide. This platform is still a bit new for me. (Shadesofrespect (talk) 23:01, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- From searching on Google I couldn't find any third-party sources, or indication of notability per Wikipedia:Notability (persons). Since I haven't yet seen the article though, it would be great if you went to the page User:Shadesofrespect/Eren Niazi then click "create", paste the code, and click "save". I'll see what I can do then.
- To use an image in an article you first have to upload it to Wikimedia Commons (for images in the public domain or licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike or GNU Free Documentation licenses) or Wikipedia (would be the case for instance for fair use of copyrighted material). benzband (talk) 11:46, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
What I will do is just that, however, I will start by merely pasting the original wiki, PRE-edit, to the create page. Now to go upload the images to Wikimedia Commons as well and then share the draft that I added information from. Also, since you and kudpung can somehow still see the old page that got deleted, where would I be able to find that information, the old article, that is? As there was some light code applied to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadesofrespect (talk • contribs) 17:42, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not an admin (User:Kudpung is) so I can't access deleted pages, but I've found a cached version if that's any help (copy and paste the following URL into your brower: http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?d=4869102422854536&w=ucSwjpsTMO-mNl0It_SgpxhO4z0HpdRe benzband (talk) 18:35, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- I have also moved User:Shadesofrespect to User:Shadesofrespect/Eren Niazi so as to not confuse the draft with your user page. When you've finished, let me know so I can give suggestions on how to improve the article. benzband (talk) 18:42, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
This link is still extremely helpful, so thank you! Also thank you for migrating the information to the correct page. I wish I had a way to capture all of the content I added when I edited the site. I'm certain User:Kudpung has it and hopefully can help so I don't need to start from scratch again. This wiki world is quite unique, this I can tell you. It's also rather amazing and an eye opener for me. (Shadesofrespect (talk) 19:29, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 25
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Occupy Money Cooperative, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alternative banking (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
