Hi ... many tx for the DYK notice for DYK for Wilson's Arch (Jerusalem).

Quick question .. all others I ever received, I believe, had this neat little click-tab, to check how many hits the dyk had. That is handy, as over time it helps one who does not want to have to search for an old DYK's stats on the DYK day. This one, however, seems to be missing that. Just wondering ...

You're welcome. I had a look back and I think it's because you nominated the article but didn't write it. I believe the bot that sends out these messages only puts those links on for the article creators, so the link will be on his/her talk page rather than yours. It's just the way the templates work... Thank you for your participation in the March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive

On behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, we would like to take the time and thank you for your contributions made as part of the March 2011 Good articles backlog elimination drive. Awards and barnstars will go out shortly for those who have reviewed a certain number of articles.

During the backlog drive, in the month of March 2011,

• 522 GA nominations were undertaken.
• 423 GA nominations passed.
• 72 GA nominations failed.
• 27 GA nominations were on hold.

We started the GA backlog elimination drive with 378 GA nominations remaining, with 291 that were not reviewed at all. By 2:00, April 1, 2011, the backlog was at 171 GA nominations, with 100 that were left unreviewed.

At the start of the drive, the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 101 days (Andrei Kirilenko (politician), at 20 November 2010, reviewed and passed 1 March 2011); at the end of the drive the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 39 days (Gery Chico, at 24 February 2011, still yet to be reviewed as of this posting).

While we did not achieve the objective of getting the backlog of outstanding GA nominations down to below 50, we reduced the GA backlog by over half. The GA reviews also seemed to be of a higher quality and have consistently led, to say the least, to marginal improvements to those articles (although there were significant improvements to many, even on the some of the nominations that were failed).

If you would like to comment on the drive itself and maybe even make suggestions on how to improve the next one, please make a comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives/March 2011#Feedback. Another GA backlog elimination drive is being planned for later this year, tentatively for September or October 2011. Page-views

On the WP:Football discussion you mentioned that Man City had 150,000+ views more than the seasons article. Please could you tell me where I can find page-views for wiki articles? TheBigJagielka (talk) 13:16, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Of course. If you go on any article and click the "View history" tab, there will be an external link fairly near the top of the page that says "Page view statistics". There's also a few other links, such as number of page watchers etc. If you click the link it will tell you the number of page views for the last 30 days or for each month and there's a chart to show the number of views each day. Historical newspapers

Hello. For a few months, I have online access via a library to a selection of 19th century newspapers, hence the frantic creation of season articles before said access runs out. Glossary of association football terms

Hey Dom. We're on a bit of a drive to reference every term in the page at the moment. Once that's done, my guess is that we'll wait for the DYK to pass, and then start talking seriously about inclusion/exclusion criteria. Anyway, I've come a bit unstuck with scrimmage, not least because this lot show up everywhere I look. This is a bit of a tricky one. I could provide hundreds of newspaper articles where the term is used, but none that specifically say what it means. For example from The Times, 1 Nov 1880: "A fierce scrimmage carried on in front of the Eton posts and out of this a goal was kicked." There are loads more like that, but I'll keep looking through them and see if there's anything more useful. BigDom 06:36, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Template:Infobox Landskap

Hello! You were the administrator who closed the TFD nomination of this template as delete. I just finished converting all transclusions of {{Infobox Landskap}} to {{Infobox settlement}}. However, I'm wondering: should the template be deprecated (as it is several years old, which means it may break older revisions), or should it be deleted? That's a very good question and to be honest I don't know the proper answer. Even though the old revisions would not look right if it was deleted, the relevant information would still be there in the edit window of any revision. Also, the template naturally wasn't used on that many pages so it wouldn't be a massive problem. After looking for an hour or so this morning, I'm pretty sure that there is no "official" advice regarding this, so I think I will delete it for now and if another administrator wants to undelete it in the future, they can do. In the process, you appear to have deleted a large chunk of the discussion, including a number of guideline-based arguments by myself and Vanadus which argued for deletion. I'd be grateful if you could explain the rationale behind your excision of this text (and also your decision to close; I'll admit to a degree of bias since I was arguing for deletion, but I don't see any policy-based rebuttal to the deletion arguments put forward).

I've got a question about that same deleted article Anonymous (Street Meat). I remember that it had an image of an eye in the info box. Could you look at the deleted version to see what the file name was? Since it was the promotional image for her short film, I'd like to use that image on the article Migdia Chinea Varela where it mentions the film. This says he made nine Midland League appearances (and none in any other competitions). And in case your sources have not recorded these, he died in Vancouver in 1991 and was 5 ft 9.5 in. I saw that you created the article for William Tait (footballer), who played for Newton Heath (Manchester United), Now I was wondered if you sure his first name is actually William and if he is the same person who played for Newton Heath. I tried searching MUFC database and none actually knew his first name. nor any major info on that case. if you could shed some light on the issue it would be amazing. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for asking. I think that I initially created the article from Michael Joyce's Football League Players' Records which simply lists him as "Tait, W" (5 apps, 4 gls) and lists his other clubs as Newton Heath, West Manchester and Ardwick. When I acquired the Burnley FC history book (the one that's referenced in the article) it gave his name as "William Tait" and showed that he had scored 5 goals rather than 4 so that's where the article title and the infobox stats come from. The book confirms that he was signed from Newton Heath in August 1888. Indeed, after the second match of the 1888–89 season the local newspaper (from where the book takes its information) states that a hat-trick, the first ever scored in the Football League, was scored by a William Tait. According to the book Tait left Burnley in Oct 1888, but it says nothing about his career thereafter. Hope this helps, BigDom 10:30, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I know as a fact that he signed in Newton Heath in late 1888, and scored twice in November 1888 in the Football Alliance, but now I also understand that he played in Newton Heath prior to that before joining Burnley, so maybe a short loan or short spell?, but never the less he most be the same player. WikiCup 2012 June newsletter

Apologies for the lateness of this letter; our usual bot wasn't working. We are now entering round 4, our semi-finals, and have our final 16. A score of 243 was required to reach this round; significantly more than 2011's 76 points, and only a little behind 2010's 250 points. By comparison, last year, 150 points in round 4 secured a place in the final; in 2010, 430 were needed. Commiserations to Pool A's igordebraga (submissions), who scored 242 points, missing out on a place in the round by a whisker. However, congratulations to Pool B's Grapple X (submissions), whose television articles have brought him another round victory. Pool A's Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second overall, with an impressive list of biological did you knows, good articles and featured articles. Third overall was Pool D's Muboshgu (submissions), with a long list of contibutions, mostly relating to baseball. Of course, with the points resetting every round, the playing field has been levelled. The most successful Pool was Pool D, which saw seven into the final round. Pool B saw four, C saw three and Pool A saw only the two round leaders.

A quick note about other competitions taking place on Wikipedia which may be of interest. There are 13 days remaining in the June-July GAN backlog elimination drive, but it is not too late to take part. August will also see the return of The Core Contest- a one month long competition first run in 2007. While the WikiCup awards points for audited content on any subject, The Core Contest about is raw article improvement, focussing heavily on the most important articles on Wikipedia. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.
