Reflective Essay
[edit]I learned a lot in Wikipedia during the article evaluation that I never knew from this website. Before this class all my Professor would tell us that Wikipedia is not a good source to use. I was very surprise when Professor Smith told us that we are just using Wiki for this class. I was ok is he just playing with us. Now I see Wikipedia differently that I can use in the future and I will be able to see what parts from that article I can use and will be helpful to finish my projects. At the start, it was a headache because I could not figure out how to use this website and I did not want to give false information to the public eye. Also I read the article first like any person and I saw there were parts that look like they were not finish. So I wanted to see how I am able to finish those part. The first step was to look for grammar and the simple mistakes we do and never go back to check it. Then I wanted to see what other Wiki people had in mind yet it was very hard to find everything. I still need to finish parts because it hard to get good sources to be creditable. Some of my edits are very small changes changing the words arounds and seeing which word fits better. I haven't make huge changes yet but I am planning to finish the unfinished sections from the article because I think they are important it was just not finish on time. I felt the training was a good way to learn how to make changes. Yet, in some areas I think the training could have been a bit more stronger and doing at the same time for example videos. For Peer view I have left some comments on the people I needed to review. Not sure if they were helpful for them. But for me I have not yet found any comments from the peer review person. I am sure if they did review my parts or I just can not find the comments. Another reason can be is that I have not yet finish the sections I need to do. Which I can not give any complaints but I do feel that having peer reviews are very helpful in many area. For example, when we go back to our work we do not catch the mistakes even if we read them out loud. For other class we have done this and it helps a lot to make your work be ready to be graded. I was able to find the peer review and the way the article was clear for the reader to see. I can keep the format the way it is because it gives a lot of information for people that has never heard about this before. I have not gotten any feedback from other Wiki’s but I do feel that some people can be very rude. I think that is one reason people do not know nor want to major changes to this pages. But from the comments from other sections I can see those feedbacks are very helpful in some ways to make the article more stronger. If I get feedback I will read it and think about using it because they are looking for the good benefit of the article for others to use. From contributing to Wikipedia I learned that this articles cane be hard to edit and keep updated. For example, some of this articles need to be updated with today's issues and how they those issues have be influencing the future of today. It's not easy to sit down and edit the sections because it not about the spelling nor the dates but the information that is giving and that it will be use. The Wikipedia assignment is very different than any other assignments the major one is I am able to use Wiki for the work I need to do. The second one its online which makes it public for anyone to see, read, and use for their classes. Also this assignment is all on us and what we want to do with it. Yes, there are time frames and things the Professor wants us to do on this website yet its want is going to work best for the article and how it can be improve to the best of everyone. Wikipedia can be improve by helping the editor to find what sources are good to use to make articles for health. For example, in the comment section a editor pointed out the some sources were copied from another article. Which makes me think its very easy to take other ideas from other pages. I feel the the website should be more update to catch people's eyes. That means from color and the way to negative the website because it can be confusing sometimes. If Wikipedia were to be a bit easier to negative I feel that the older generation would be able to find important information about health. This is important because in today's world most of the new disease and sickness and health journals are online they might be some books but those books are not in all the different languages. This website is very helpful in today’s life because we can pull any from the website and get it in seconds. Blanca2019 (talk) 19:07, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Blanca Sanchez
