Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Historical linguistics into Linguistics. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 23:27, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Diannaa, Thanks for your note and apologies for not providing an edit summary. However, I did not copy it from the historical linguistics page but from an older version of the Linguistics page itself. I see what you mean, but perhaps it was the older user on the Linguistics page itself who copied it from historical linguistics or vice versa. It was impossible to keep a track on which user's edit that was as the version I took it from may not have been the one where the material was initially created. I'll keep your points in mind for next time as I do see what you mean. And where I can, I will certainly add attribution to the re-structuring I was doing. Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Verve (Indian magazine). Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Tayi Arajakate Talk 06:51, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Daily News and Analysis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Digital. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
