Conflict of interest policy and Username policy
[edit]If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for businesses. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. [1]
See WP:U for username policy --Ronz (talk) 19:34, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
This kind of activity is considered spamming and forbidden by policies, and also violates our username policy.
However, if you feel that there has been a mistake in your blocking, please appeal this block by adding the text{{unblock|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page or email the administrator who blocked you. Your reason should include your response to this issue and a new username you wish to adopt that does not violate our username policy (specifically, understand that accounts are for individuals, not companies or groups, and that your username should reflect this). Please check that your new username has not already been taken by checking this list. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 19:39, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Boyband625 (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I think that I posted legitimate, informational links to my site. They're not generic and or unrelated...DigiTech links to the DigiTech archive, BOSS links to the BOSS archive, and so on. It's not even an e-commerce site. Clearly not spam, if you care to look at the actual effects links.
Decline reason:
They were relevant, perhaps, but not encyclopedic. Wikipedia's not a dumping ground for links; if all you plan to do here is add links to your own website without adding any actual content, we're not going to unblock you. Please review the links in the block template above for more information. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:11, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:
Okay, well I guess I can appreciate why there'd be a distinction between something being "relevant" and "encyclopedic". Is the problem then that I am not adding content before I add the links? My site's full of plenty of relevant guitar effects information that could be re-purposed for Wiki. Would I just then, list the site as a reference (rather than an external link)?
Decline reason:
Nobody gets to link to their own websites. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 17:27, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Request reason:
I guess I won't be linking to my site then. Is there still some way I can I can get my account unblocked for making other edits. There's some blatantly wrong content I've found in some articles about Magic: The Gathering. I guess I need a different username too? I don't know how to change that, but how about something simple like jeffsixtwofive
Decline reason:
I have removed the account creation restriction so that you can register a new account. Go register a non-promotional username and don't make any more spam edits. If you use the new account to add links to your site, admins are much less likely to be sympathetic next time. Oren0 (talk) 18:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

- Ok, I was about to unblock you so you could make a username change request at Wikipedia:Changing username; User:Jeffsixtwofive is available so you should have no trouble. But it is easier, as Oren0 suggests, to simply create a new account by logging out. The only difference between the two approaches is that if you go through Wikipedia:Changing username you get to keep the old edits you've made; in your case, I'd consider that a tossup: since they're bad edits, you might prefer to have a clean slate. But if you do think it's important to keep your old edit history for some reason post a new request and I think it should be granted. Mangojuicetalk 18:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Will do then. Thanks guys. -jeff
