U2 of renamed user

I think you made a mistake in deleting User talk:ClydeFranklin. WP:U2 excludes "redirects created due to a user being renamed". SilverLocust 💬 13:13, 3 March 2024 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @SilverLocust: in practice this is allowed with consent of the renamed user (this should probably be clarified in policy somewhere). Elli (talk | contribs) 13:42, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
You are correct, the policy as written doesn't fully reflect current practice, and in many cases there are legitimate reasons for wanting these redirects removed. – bradv 17:51, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bradv: Then you should try to change the CSD rather than making out-of-process deletions. SilverLocust 💬 20:40, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Bradv,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Sockpuppet Magonz

Now that its been confirmed that Magonz was socking, this editor was also prolific in creating content forks. I'm wondering what is best to do with all the articles they created? WCMemail 16:22, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

I haven't seen any such examples, but if there are problematic articles they will need to be dealt with through the usual editing process. WP:G5 and WP:BMB only apply to edits made while a user was banned (i.e. they are not retroactive). Also FYI, there is currently an unblock request at User talk:Magonz#Blocked as a sockpuppet, so it's probably best not to rush into anything. – bradv 23:30, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

How to reopen a sockpuppet investigation?

Hello. The case page of the Sockpuppet Investigations regarding R2dra was closed on April 4th and archived. However, a brand new user, User:Khalid bin walid II[1], has moved two drafts, Draft:Mughal Invasion of Bikaner (1534) and Draft:Al-Mamun's Invasion of Mewar, both of which were created by Narook, a sock of R2dra. Considering the similarity in editing areas, and the fact that Khalid bin walid II's first edit was made on April 5th, just after all the socks of R2dra were blocked, and both are editing Rajput-related articles, what procedure should I follow to reopen the case? Imperial[AFCND] 12:16, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Stop targeting me and reverting my edits. You are promoting your own ideology on Wikipedia Khalid bin walid II (talk) 12:50, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
@ImperialAficionado, done. Thanks for letting me know. You can either do the same next time, or open a new investigation at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/R2dra. If you have Twinkle it makes the process easier (see the instructions at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations). – bradv 14:16, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Request on 09:12:05, 11 June 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by Lacuna Leemte

Lacuna Leemte (talk) 09:12, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Hallo,

I wrote the article for the Dutch Wikipedia and had it translated by a native English speaker. In the meantime, I have deleted a lot and re-edited the article completely at the request of the reviewers.

In Dutch the artikcle looks completely different, but it makes sense, because there is also a lot written about his hometown Roeselare.

I also removed some primary sources and added reliable secondary sources, totally independent of the subject. The article now contains at least 15 reliable secondary sources that are 100% about Kristof Santy, and abolutely no "just passing mentions".

Most of them are Dutch-language sources, especially newspapers, magazines, the Belgian Radio (VRT) and leading art websites in Belgium. I hope “Reliable" applies also to sources in another language and from foreign countries. The sources that one finds depend in part on the language settings of the PC. I can't find any English newspaper articles.

Kristof Santy is a rising star, who exhibits a lot in England, USA and Austria and gets very good reviews. That's why I published the translated article on the en.wikipedia, which is the first time. I don't have a personal connection with the artist, I just write continuously about art on the Dutch wikipedia and I am actually writing about contemporary Belgian artists, after a serie about contemporary American artists.

I hope it's all right now. If not, just scrap it. I have done everything that is asked and what is possible for me. Sorry, but I don't want to spend any more time on it. Lacuna Leemte (talk) 09:12, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

@Lacuna Leemte, Dutch-language sources are fine, but from what I could see they were mostly interviews, which aren't great for establishing notability (see WP:INTERVIEW). But perhaps I'm missing something – what would you say is the single best source that establishes notability (either WP:ANYBIO or WP:NARTIST)? – bradv 01:42, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
I can’t agree with your assertion. I know the standards. The references include 6 interviews, 13 articles, 1 encyclopedia and 1 primary source. That is a healthy mix that I encounter in the many en.wikipedia articles I have translated and used for the wikipedia.nl. I have now listed the different kinds for each reference, so you can easily check for yourself. Lacuna Leemte (talk) 07:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
