So you've been doing some work on some of the articles that I've created. Well do you know what I think of your work, huh? I think you've done a great job! Plus the images that you've added on Alejandro Tapia y Rivera and Antonio Valeo de Bernabe are great. Let me remind you of one thing, in Latin-American countries it is common to use both surnames such as the case of Alejandrina Benitez de Gautier and Tapia y Rivera. Therefore, I redid Alejandrina and wrote it as Benitez de Gautier while in Tapia y Rivera's case he is most commonly known simply as Tapia. Normaly a person of Latin American descent born in the United States however, will only use his fathers surname. It's been a pleasure writing to you. Tony the Marine 08:49, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thank you

[edit]

Hey, thanks for the No 1 Award. I'm finally number 1 in something (smile). You know it is kind of ironic, yesterday I thought to myself "I think Brookie and I are going to become good wikipedian friends" and here you surprise me with the award. I'm also glad that you've read my articles about Puerto Rico. It's incrediable how so many talented people were born there. Tell me something about yourself. If you ever need any help in relation to Latin Amaerican topics, let me know, O.K? Your friend Marine 69-71 01:17, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

(P.S. I forgot to tell you that I framed the award and placed in its own special place in my User Page, take a look)

You're Welcome

[edit]

Brookie my friend, you are welcome. You are one of three people that deserved it. One thing though, in my talk page you called me Mike and I'm Tony, I found it kind of funny. I have a question, do you think that you might be able to obain an image of General Luis R. Esteves? I would like one for his article. Your friend Tony the Marine 8 July 2005 18:21 (UTC)

You're a sysop!

[edit]

I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. Congratulations!. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:40, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brookie,

I've just noticed that you seem to be doing a good job, tidying up lots of odd little articles. I don't know how you are finding them, but it is the sort of thing that often escapes notice. In any case, please accept this Editor's Barnstar and keep up the good work. -- Solipsist 15:43, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to drop on you again...

[edit]

Hello again, as we seem to be online virtually at the same time..... just to let you know, some days ago I was whacked with the following by GraemeL (you never cease to learn), and I promised to spread it:

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Cheers. And don't take me for a betterknowing busybody :))Lectonar 12:33, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

your question

[edit]

Sorry, just came in at 8.30 (Berlin-time), and it took a little research, but the nearest thing I found is here; as far as I understand it, you have to protect the article while it's still there, tag it accordingly and then delete it and it's history....and I see you've borrowed my admin-template... :)) Happy editing. Lectonar 06:49, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • glad to be of service...and the colour fits well with my babel template ;) Lectonar 07:21, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • If it's worth anything to you (and if you're not fishing for compliments ;)), I think you could do well with a {{en-N}}, as I find you're grasp of English rather, say, native...as for me, when I do translation work from German to English or French to English for wiki, at first sight everything reads really well (for me; if you're in the mood, have a look at the article about Helmut Berger and its history)...then someone comes along rephrasing it, and, presto, that's the real bean (and yes, that's me fishing for compliments :))) ) Lectonar 08:22, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for the compliments and the tweakin' (you see what I meant); there is a picture of him on the talk-page on the article (alright, not so much of him...), loaded up by MutterErde, who has recently been banned indefinitely here and on the German-wiki. I am now an administrator (looking like a good egg) and would like to thank you for your support on my RfA. [edit]

Hi my friend, thanks for the message. It's nice to know that your friends think about you once in awile. I've been writing articles as always, yesterday I finished Juano Hernandez. We haven't spoken for sometime. You know I believe that Wiki has to change its policy and to better enable us to fight Vandalism. If a person wants to edit, he should be asked to register, like in so many other sites. It's difficult when "anybody" (especially those unregistered users) can mess up your work. That's one of the reasons that many people question the credibility of our project. If Wiki required that you register, then we can go after and punish the perpetrator and not a bunch of innocent users. Food for thought Your friend Tony the Marine 06:10, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Back... and need some urgent help!

[edit]

Hi Brookie! Sorry you missed me (like a hole in the head?!). I'm back and screwing up already. As an admin, please could you move Thereis a sucker born every minute to back to There is a sucker born every minute (stupid slip which resulted in me hitting the enter button...)? I was trying to move it to There's a sucker born every minute (which I can't do, but will go via the normal "requested moves" procedure) when I got my fingers in a tangle. Sorry and thanks! CLW 10:47, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh - in the meantime, another admin has already spotted this and fixed it. Cheers anyway! CLW 11:06, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh - straight on the watchlist! CLW 15:11, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I must say that I'd be honoured! The use of admin functions such as rolling back vandalism would be extremely useful. However, I've only been here since the end of July, and some of my decisions have attracted mild criticism (User talk:CLW#Rick Kosick, User talk:CLW#Afd, User talk:CLW#Edits at once). D'you reckon those factors would go against me? If not, I'd gladly accept nomination! CLW 16:49, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a good look through the current RfAs, and I reckon that even if I were to be shot down in flames, it'd produce constructive criticism which is always a good thing and which would provide useful pointers for if I should then be re-nominated in future. So yes, please, nomination would be appreciated! Cheers, CLW 17:46, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This biographical entry (or if this is posted on your user page, an article you have recently written) may not meet Wikipedia's generally accepted criteria for inclusion for a biographical article.

Hi, Brookie! I have to agree with Fred Chessplayer that two (fairly similar) pics of Kalmar Castle is rather a lot for the article Kalmar. You don't happen to have some other nice picture of Kalmar you could upload and donate instead, by any chance? I mean, I don't know Kalmar very well, but there must be other views of it worth displaying. Are you in Kalmar yourself? I'm not convinced that this recent obsession with nuns is healthy! As you've noticed, I've can a go through the article. Change back anything you disagree with; if I object I'll start an edit war! (Not really.) (Perhaps.)

I've moved the article to Delapré Abbey - I don't think there's anything confusing as the un-accented version now redirects folk there anyway. If anything, I think having a different title to opening description would have been more confusing!

The Tates - are they the sugar/art magnates or a different family? Probably worth linking (surely there's an article?) if it's the same family.

Look forward to the next nun-related article! Cheers, CLW 16:12, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sedilla / Sedilia

[edit]

Hi Brookie! I was just checking some church architectural terms and see you have recently created the Sedilla article. I'm not familiar with that spelling; can't find it in Collins Dictionary or Pevsner. I think you must mean Sedilia, which already has an article (albeit a rather short one). Perhaps you could merge yours into it? The picture would be especially valuable. SiGarb 23:30, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And a Happy New Year to you too!
(PS Did the pub run dry? It's not quite 2006 yet!)
(PPS While you are fixing Sedilla, perhaps you could look into the mess-up that has overtaken Aisle and particularly user:Myfanwy/Aisle. The latter obviously needs deleting, although it looks as if she's started making some sensible edits, got confused and chickened out. (Some of her improvements could be merged into Aisle, though I'd think just a mention that aisles are also found in theatres, cinemas, supermarkets and public transport would suffice, rather than giving each area a heading of its own.) Feliz Día de Reyes

[edit]
Los Tres Reyes Magos/The three Wise Men

I would like to share with my three best friends in Wikipedia, Brookie, David Cannon and Linuxbeak a Puerto Rican Christian tradition and wish you three a "Happy Dia de Reyes", a celebration that we still celebrate in Puerto Rico every January 6. The night before the children of the island fill a little box with grass for the kings camel and place it under the Christmas tree. Hi Brookie. Seasonably cold in Montreal today, around -11C, but expected to become rather warm over the next week or so. In fact, rain in the longterm forecast which is rather unusual. So Mr. Rick Blatter is putting his stuff all over Wikipedia? I thought we was a local Lavalois just promoting himself muncipally. Shawn, Montreal Jan. 7/2206
