Mr. Mystery has been proposed for deletion. Please see the article for details. NickelShoe 18:54, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

mr. mystery

[edit]

hiya-

well, to provide your "evidence", you only have to cite the book- ie say, as Mr. Midnight does, that a notice at the back of book states a new series, Mr. Mystery, is now being worked on, and providing the relevant information (page number, book) so this can be found by others. This in itself isn't a copyright issue, you can cite and quote things.

However, my guess, (which is only a guess as i can't read the deleted article), is that the article was deleted because we don't currently know anything beyond that- "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, see WP:NOT" was the edit summary. But you should be able to stub it, with the relevant information that the book will exist and who it will be written by and whatnot, i don't really see why this would be a problem. Speculation on what the book will be about may be problematic.

As to a book cover- the tag you are looking for is {{book cover}}. which must be accompanied by an explanation of why this is fair use of the image.

good luck. apologies about the talk page, it seems to have bloomed exponentially in the last week or so . . .

--He:ah? 18:41, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the relevant part of WP:NOT, btw- WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_crystal_ball. If you stay within it's guidlines i don't see why you should have a problem . . . I'll put the book on my watchlist so i can see what happens . . . --He:ah? 18:53, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking should be used to stop the vandalism if the warnings don't work and in this case they don't seem to be. A block should not really be used to punish the editor and blocking almost 24 hours after the offence would be more a punishment. Usually in cases like this I have been using the {{subst:bv}} (blatant vandal). Then I will check back and see if they are continueing to vandalise and if so block them. I would suspect that if they vandalise again I would block them. However, they only seem to do it once or twice a week and so it's not very likely to bother them. Well thanks for telling me. Sorry about the broken link in my previous message; it should be [[Special:Contributions/209.158.179.18|209.158.179.18]]... --Bruin rrss23 03:08, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This IP address is apparently a shared IP address registered to Education Service Center District 10 and used by a large number of students. These shared IPs are often the sources of large amounts of vandalism over a long period of time, but it is not usually a good idea to block them immediately. In blocking a shared IP, thousands of individuals could be blocked from editing Wikipedia. The student vandalizing from this IP probably isn't even the same one that has vandalized Wikipedia in the past. A short block should be employed if necessary, but a warning should be given first. If after the bv warning, vandalism had continued, I would have blocked the IP. If you ever see an IP that is engaging in flagrant vandalism and is ignoring warnings, you can report it at WP:AIV to get a quick response. Hope that answers your question. deleting

[edit]

hi bruin, there isn't really much of a reason to delete that page- after all, this is a wiki, and the page can easily be changed. so i've removed the comment. pages only get deleted for content if they are copyvios or are decided to be non-notable or otherwise unsuitable for wikipedia- but as this is a talk and the article is fine, i've just gone ahead and removed the nonsense. cheers --Heah? 16:39, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: aiman

[edit]

concerning user aiman, you are not the first to bring up complains against him. I myself had written notes at his user page but he seems to be ignoring it. After awhile, I just gave up on him. __earth (Talk) 10:41, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:FlashGet.gif listed for deletion

[edit]

I have nominated an image you uploaded, Image:FlashGet.gif, for deletion. The deletion discussion can be found here. The reason I've nominated the image is that it is low quality and in GIF format (JPEG, SVG and GIF formats are preferred for Wikipedia images). It has been replaced by Image:FlashGet.png, a replacement screenshot in PNG format. Cynical 22:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This "biograpy" contains copyrighted and unsourced information. The author of this article, CyberGhostface has inserted a number of copyrighted pictures which he cites as being "low-resolution screenshots", when in fact they are not. These pictures are fully copyrighted, the copyright being held by Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation. The article contains unsourced information, and any edits and additions made to this article by wikipedians are reverted back to the original article by it's creator. It seems that CyberGhostface will not allow anyone to edit this article for any reason! -JimmyMack 16:53, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry he got you involved with this. For the record, this person basically added his own fictional original research into the articles, so he got mad when I removed them. "Anyone" in this case just basically refers to him.--CyberGhostface 21:15, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Badly, I myself don't know much about John Wydell. I was just using Lupin's anti-vandal tool when I found out about the personal attack to you on the 26th on the article and reverted it and gave him a warning. That's how everything started. Now he's under a different IP since his old IP which I reported to WP:PAIN got blocked. At time of writing, his new IP is already blocked. I guess he will surface again after sometime under a new IP. I'll put the article on my watchlist and see what happens. --Bruin_rrss23 07:20, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Autoblock of 165.228.131.12 lifted or expired.

Currently, the internet connection in South East Asia is extremely unreliable due to some earthquake in Taiwan breaking the international link, making it impossible to access Wikipedia. I'm currently using a proxy since it's the only way I know to get access to WP. The IP just needs to be set to allow logged in users to edit from the proxy's IP.

EDIT: I found a faster proxy so I changed the IP. Don't know if this is allowable or not, but I think I'll settle for the new IP for the mean time...--Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 11:23, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: Thanks for the unblock. It now seems that I can now access WP without using the proxy albeit slower. I might be switching between normal and proxy connection depending on which is faster until the international links in Taiwan are repaired, which I'll settle for normal connection. --Bruin_rrss23 (talk) 05:07, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: Where do I put this Image?

regarding Image:Maybank Tower Kuala Lumpur 2.jpg, I am unsure how useful it would be since there is a superior image. For Image:Balai Polis KL.jpg, you might want to try Royal Malaysian Police. __earth (Talk) 13:38, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:MainZLlogo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MainZLlogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:29, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Linking dates

[edit]

Hi. Per WP:CONTEXT#Dates, dates should not be linked purely so that a user can make use of autoformatting. I've reverted your edits to OpenOffice.org as such. ~~ [ジャム][talk] 10:13, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:19, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
