Clusty userbox
[edit]Thanks for creating the Clusty userbox! heqs 21:56, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- Someone removed the Clusty logo from the template. [1] Apparently fair use images are to be used in articlespace only (WP:FUC). Maybe it could still be used {{withpermission}} (probably not though...) or a substitute could be created similar to some of the logos on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Computing. heqs 17:22, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Glad you liked it. I'm a big fan of clusty - I was going for a job there but got scooped up elsewhere, actually. Somebody replaced the image on the clusty page (which I used for the user box) with a different image of the clusty patch (on a white background, instead of on the blue and tan background). I hadn't even noticed that the userbox was clobbered since I haven't been on wp in a while. When I get time I might remake the userbox with a red/white color scheme using the image that's up there now, so Clusty's userbox can be colorful and graphical like the other search engines boxes. Cat Parade 04:07, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, and I dunno how the withpermission tag works with userboxes. It might be a possibility, though, because permission was given via email to use that logo. Cat Parade 04:10, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I dunno for sure, but it's possible with that extra "level" of use granted it may be deemed allowable in template space. heqs 11:06, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- I remade it with the new image. I liked the old one better, and the Clusty link is a little hard to read, but, c'est la vie I guess. Cat Parade 20:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Please do't re-insert images tagged as 'fair use' into templates, or you may be blocked from editing. Please see WP:FUC. --Doc ask? 20:51, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that image is tagged correctly. I believe the reason somebody got rid of the original image I had and replaced it with this one (btw - this wasn't a re-insert, the previous box had a different image, this is just an insert) was because this new one is specifically allowed for use by Vivisimo (not that the previous one wasn't, just the permission from this one is posted right on their site), see http://clusty.com/sitesearch#logos Cat Parade 03:11, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes... Doc, that was not a re-insert. heqs 11:28, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Clusty is down atm but iirc Image:ClustyLogo.png is allowed for linking. So the template would have to link directly to their site(?). Might not be a problem, see for instance {{user last.fm}}.
- btw, {{withpermission}} is normally used with a fair use tag like {{fair use in}} or {{logo}}. But if Clusty explicitly allowed permission for use on Wikipedia templates=all of Wikipedia, what would the policy wonks/copyright paranoids say?
- Image:ClustyLogo.jpg is still on here, btw, but just barely ;p. It was almost deleted for being an orphan fair use image. It's now used in the Vivísimo article. See the image history [2] heqs 11:28, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Correcting links to disambiguation pages
[edit]Could you explain to me what happened to en dashes here? Some of your other edits seem to do strange things with other characters too [3] [4] Jogers (talk) 16:02, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- It looks like either vim or mozex is mutilating some characters - UTF I think. I haven't seen this before. I've fixed the ones you've pointed out, I'll go back and check my other changes before figuring out what's going wrong when I edit. Cat Parade 16:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Deletion notices
[edit]Welcome!! By all means, please feel free to add speedy deletion tags to articles that need them. The system categorizes them on one page when you do. With all the nonsense that just hemmorrhages its way onto this site, we need all the new pages patrollers we can get. - Lucky 6.9 06:45, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
I removed the speedy tag from Joseph W. Neely Reynolds because the article asserts notability. Specifically, it says that Joseph W. Neely Reynolds released at least two albums on a major label, which is genrally accepted as proof of notability. I hope that someone will add references to the article. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 20:22, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:ClustyLogo.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ClustyLogo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 23:36, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary
[edit]Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 14:36, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh activity
[edit]Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussion at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:52, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted
[edit]I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.
Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 15:06, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Your upload of File:CatParade.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
