I was looking for 'This user lives in East Sussex', I found 'This user lives in Sussex', but that turned out to an American Sussex. As Sussex is a divided County, I thought it would be useful to also have available 'This user lives in West Sussex. ColinBoylett 15:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC-6)

Better. Do you want one or two ID sections? (That's where graphics appear.) I can use any free (not fair use) image on Wikipedia or Commons. Just be sure it fits. You can also have text there. If you want one ID section that can be on the left or right.

I am asking about that now as it affects which template I build the box with. You can see samples of all three (left, right, both) at WP:UBX. I have yet to build a box with two IDs. I was looking for one box on the left with the East Sussex County Arms, with 'This user lives in East Sussex'. An image of the Arms is in the article East Sussex, not sure if that would be usable, the only one I have found so far.

I personally do not need one for West Sussex, but thought it would be useful for those who need it, I have noticed that a lot of users in Sussex (UK) are displaying the American version of 'This user lives in Sussex'. ColinBoylett 15:45, 8 February 2007 (UTC-6)

The basic boxes are now up at User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes#Sussex, England. Please comment on them. Would you like color changes? I can control both background colors, both foreground text colors, and the border. I also added "England" so people would know which Sussex. (Remember why were are doing this.) Should I change the wording?

Finally, the coat of arms image shown West Sussex would be a fair use violation in user boxes. So I found a free image from Commons. The color is a little different than the fair use version, but I doubt people will notice.

Currently, the boxes don't create any categories. However, you should be aware that if I do add categories, I do so with a parameter, {{{No Categories}}}, that if it is non-blank, the category will be suppressed. 22:33, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Excellent. Glad you like them. Sorry I couldn't respond sooner. I have been having health problems. Even now that I am starting to recover, working in front of a computer monitor is still very tiring, more than anything else.

However, I do want to go ahead an list them as planned. I was holding that off in case changes were made.

BTW: I generally don't make custom boxes. However, if you have other requests and I see them on the page where I saw the Sussex one, don't be too surprised if I offer to help. User boxes, and templates in general, are relatively simply.

While adding the {{Philately}} template to some article talk pages I noticed your edits, and talk comments, to some philatelic articles and wondered if you were aware of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Philately as you have not yet joined those of us who are trying to make the philatelic article better and more complete. Are you talking about Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Concise Stamp Catalogue? I would favour merging this with Stanley Gibbons as there is little point in having separate article for the catalogue when it is one of the core elements of their business. I can help you with that if you need, and you can continue adding data there, otherwise I will add a merge tag to both unless you have some really really good reason to keep both articles. Ok, I will do it today or tomorrow, as time permits. Have a look ate Millennium Stamp and Millennium Series (stamps) to see how the tags for merging work, if you are not just doing it like we are by agreement. I tagged those earlier today but did not get the chance to review them carefully enough to decide what goes where, or if they should even be moved to a new name. Anyway that's how it's done. Ok, I added merge tags to both pages earlier, not yet investigated how to actually carry out the merge. Might not have much time for the next couple of days anyway, my work colleague is away at present, so having to cover extra hours. Millennium stamps

I did the merge and have also renamed the page Millennium stamp instead of Millennium Stamp, but I now realise that many countries issued stamps for the beginning of the 3rd millennium so I added Fuji and will look for other countries; Poland, Romania, etc. This could turn out to be an interesting page over time. Curiously I could not immediately find any other non-3rd millennium stamp issues other than the Dublin millennium stamps of 1988. There must be more than just the one. That's good, when I get a chance I will see if I can expand the two British series, with some detail on some of the stamp designs. As you have a bit more editing experience, perhaps you could take a look at something for me.

Etchingham

Over recent weeks, I have been expanding the detail on the Etchingham article, this has included a section on the village shop being saved and run as a community owned (not for profit) enterprise. As far as I am concerned this constitutes part of the village history. This morning an edit was done, removing this section completely, by an anonymous user, minor edits have been done to other Sussex pages from the same IP, but this was removing a complete section. I cannot see a reason why it should be removed, perhaps you could take a quick glance at it and give me your opinion, I have modified it a bit since I reverted it, but it is essentially still the item that was removed. I had a look at this anon IP user's edits and they seem mostly ok. He has mainly been removing commercial type external links but I would question some of his edits but in general not too bad. Regarding the Etchingham page I am not sure your edit about the shop are very encyclopaedic and I am sure could be improved. For me the philatelic connection is way too detailed for a village and should be compressed. I will also reduce the images that are rather too big for this page. I see you did put a comment on the user's talk page but he might not get that same IP again so it would be better to discuss the removal of the village shop on the Etchingham own talk page with an edit summery saying that the issue is written about on the talk page. Images done. You need to specify it is a thumbnail, specify the size, location and comment. Have a look at the mods I made so you understand what can be done. No need to upload a new image, you tell the page what size to make the image on that page. Sometimes you will see the same iamge used at different sizes like this one I have worked with on Postal history and Postal censorship. Notice that by putting a colon in front of the image name, the actual image does not show on your page. Look at the edit. Cheers ww2censor 17:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

It can be useful for some articles (I have seen the TOC aligned to the right most effectively on some articles about reality TV shows, where the TOC contains a dozen+ names), but really it's not good on most. Philately WikiProject

You are listed as a participant in the Philately WikiProject. Today I have created an inactive list consisting of those participants who have not made any philatelic edits for more than six months. I was going to use a 3 month cut off point but felt generous. You are not one of those editors, so I have not moved you and you remain as an active participant. If you are still active on Wikipedia but are inactive in philately please let us know by moving yourself to the inactive list. However, we really need more active participants for all philatelic articles. The Philately Portal has been running for some time and I am doing occasional updates, Postage stamps of Ireland is a candidate for featured article (that would be the first philatelic article), and several of the redlinks have been filled but we need more activity so if you are around please participate. I have not been very active on any areas of Wikipedia for some time, I recently suffered a major computer breakdown, which left me without a computer for a few weeks, eventually requiring the purchase of a new computer, as I was not able to recover a large proportion of the files from my old computer, I have had to start from scratch with a new computer. Added to other things going on at this time, I do not expect to have much time to do any edits for a few months, so I have moved myself to the inactive list, I hope to be able to return to some editing by the time the winter arrives. That was unfortunate about your computer disaster. We have 3 words in the computer business; backup, backup and backup. Hopefully this time, with your new computer, you make sure to have a simple daily backup ability, like an external USB hard-drive that you can rely on in case of another meltdown. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing.
