Kosovo-Stub

[edit]

Hi Conscious, I am having a bit of a problem with User:Hipi Zhdripi and his unsigned edits on the series Municipalities of Kosovo. He insists on reviving {{Kosovo-stub}}, though it was WP:SFDed a while back. I would appreciate your advice or mediation on this issue. Regards, --Asterion talk to me 07:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cat Redirects

[edit]

Hi there, I see you've also been helping with the Uncategorizied Categories. Thank you... As to your concern about category redirects, I've been marking them as redirects in some cases where its a reasonable name, but just not the right one. If we just delete it, then some confused person may just recreate it again later. Such is the case with Dinosaur/Dinosaurs ... Here's another kind of example Category:Georgian history -- ProveIt (talk) 14:22, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

World cup squad articles

[edit]

I noticed you adding categories for articles in Category:2006 FIFA World Cup Squads, rather than do that, I think it may be a idea to convert the articles in that category to redirects to 2006 FIFA World Cup (squads), as it already contains all the information in those articles. Oldelpaso 18:23, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Information.

[edit]

Thanks listing the WG category for deletion; it was a much needed reminder of a work-in-progress. There are actually approximately 200 entries which should go in this category. Is there any way that I can automate this process? Folajimi 15:29, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm working from Linux, so I guess I will have to do the work myself! :( Anyway, do you know if it is possible to have a redirect with respect to categories? I had thought of using the plural too, so I will create it. Cheers. Folajimi 16:42, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Categories

[edit]

I was not the creator of those categories, as you said on the CfD pages. I left a reply on my talk page also, if you care to read it. In the future, please check your facts. Thank you, zappa.jake (talk) 20:43, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thought on /ST update script

[edit]

It occurs to me it might be useful to have a "difference list" from the stub types listing on /ST, and those actually currently in existence (an auto-discoveries page, as it were). Would your existing script be easily adaptable to such a task? Alai 11:48, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nifty, thanks. BTW, all bets are off as to when the next update will be: dumps seem to be failing left and right. Alai 12:25, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm. A good question, and I don't know. If it's based off the most recent dump cycle, the last of which failed today, then it's not very recent, as all the category information was dumped on the 2nd. If it's more recent than that, it's from some other source. Alai 13:02, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, the very job! Now the small matter adding to /ST from the top, SFDing from the bottom, hopefully eventually meeting in the middle one of these days... Alai 18:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

speedy rename / speedy delete

[edit]

Sorry, didn't see your note until just now. I'll stop. Also, I discovered I had made a mistake doing the parent for Category:Paranormal Watchers, I think I've fixed it now, but if you know a better place thats fine too. -- ProveIt (talk) 17:05, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Closing CFD keeps

[edit]

Just a reminder that when you close CFD keeps (like here), you need to edit the nominated category to remove the {{cfd}} tag as well. An optional second step is to place a {{cfdend}} tag on the talk page for that category with the date of the discussion and the result, since that helps people see that perhaps a category survived a discussion before. Thanks for the help at CFD! Syrthiss 01:23, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was vandalism ... remember to check the history on the older ones. Its fixed now -- ProveIt (talk) 15:40, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Thank You!

[edit]

Thanks Conscious,

I am honored by your support in my recent successful request for adminship. As an administrator, I am your servant, ready to help however I can. My talk page is always open; should you need anything, or should you see me making a mistake -- probably a common occurrence -- please do let me know. I will depend on the good sense of the community to keep me from making a complete fool of myself! :) In gratitude, Xoloz 16:30, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

possible copyvio's

[edit]

I see from you RfA that you are knowledgeable about copyvios. Ruth_Eckerd_Hall and Stetson University Law School appear to be copyvios created by User:Rossf18 . I went ahead and listed Ruth_Eckerd_Hall at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 May 23/Articles. User_talk:RossF18 already has messages about untagged images. Should I do anything before listing, or just go ahead? Let me know and I will follow through, I need the experience. Thanks for your help.  :) Dlohcierekim 03:08, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking an opinion

[edit]

As an experienced Wikipedian with an interest in football pages and a record of work on a Featured Article, your opinion would be welcomed on a discussion at Talk:Swansea City A.F.C.. After various attempts to add a site with no original content, the site's owner has now recruited someone else to do the same. The question is this: am I correct to delete links to sites which themselves consist of others' copyrighted material and links to other sites? Given the paucity of real content, I have a strong suspicion that the site is operated on a "cash for clicks" basis.

I would like, ultimately, to see the Swansea City A.F.C. Wikipage reach Featured standard, so I am inviting opinions from Wikipedians with sustantial edit histories. Thank you for your time. - Stevecov 15:00, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppets

[edit]

thanks I'll get started on the subcat's, reguarding the suspected socks i just moved them per WP:CFD/W name wise. THanks Betacommand 13:58, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you're aware of this matter could you please look in at template:sockpuppet? I believe they are still pointing to an obsolete categorization. Cheers, -Will Beback 08:50, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, this is apparently a complicated matter. It sounds like the re-categorization process should continue first, even though the template is creating more miscategorized articles. I hope someone has a plan. Cheers, -Will Beback 09:05, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Sorry for the late reply, but it looks like this was closed as no consensous. As I recall, in the past, listing the parent with the notation that it included all children was sometimes acceptable since it was unreasonable to tag every one. In other cases this was not acceptable. So I'm not sure what the exact process is. If you want an opinion, I'd say doing the top two levels would be a good compromise. Hi Conscious. I see that you closed this discussion. I've obviously been following this topic, and I noticed your name at the CfD doing the actual (and largely thankless) work like closing, listing cats for the bot and manual changes. Thanks.--Bookandcoffee 17:10, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot mate for the setting of my three pages dedicated to the list of Northern Irish people by religion: I had no clue about how to make it clear that these people on the lists might not declare themselves as Catholics or Protestants though they were actually raised as that. Asking advice

[edit]

Hi, I want to ask some advice. Category:Hispanic inhabited regions was deleted with ease for being vauge even though a solid census provided data regarding Hispanic inhabitance. However Category:Kurdish inhabited regions survived two cfd's with no concensus even though it is much more vauge than the Hispanic counterpart as there isn't even a census to back up Kurdish inhabitance.

I feel some of the keep votes are politicaly motivated. How should I deal with this? --Cat out 11:06, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since it is more or less clear that the category is going to stay, it may be a good idea to ensure that it contains what it should contain. There's at least one piece of reliable information. Conscious 11:43, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I feel the category is being nothing but a pov fork... But that aside, how should I use the map? Tag everything inside the border as kurdish inhabited? Should Kurdish inhabited regions be a sub cat of Kurdistan? I really need guidance. --Cat out 14:48, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What you say sounds like a good idea to me... As for pov fork, I don't know. IMO "Kurdish inhabited regions" is a better category label for, say, Şırnak Province than "Kurdistan". It sounds more factual. Conscious 14:55, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am still unconfortable in declaring a place kurdish inhabited w/o census data... --Cat out 15:06, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the Russian translation --Cat out 15:08, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I came across an article using this stub, which I didn't even know existed and I found out that it was up for renaming. I have a couple comments/questions about this:

  1. Is this going to be renamed? If so, to what?
  2. This will need to be put on WP:WSS/ST. That's where I look for stubs, and if it's not there, I don't know it exists.
Awesome! Thanks for the info! Amalas =^_^= 19:22, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a reason why I used Europ-; the ones beginning with euro- were not by me and I use europ- (after Tranz Europ Express) for rail and tram related topics. I hope that helps you understand. Myrtone@Conscious.com.au

UEFA.com recently updated the text. The old version of UEFA.conm text is totally the same with the content of Nélson Augusto Tomar Marcos. I still found UEFA.com ES version Cache.[1] And someone created Nélson Marcos. 15:37, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

You make a good point, Conscious. Do you know how to revert them back to plain links? (I'm working on the Soviet Top League article right now, so I will take care of that one myself). Soviet Top League

[edit]

Hi again,

Do you have a source with the full names of the top scorers of the Top Soviet League that I could use once to finish that list? Also, I'm assuming CDKA and CSKA are the same team--do you know the history behind that--ie, what does the D in CDKA stand for and when did they make their name change? Thanks again, --Palffy 13:45, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I have been using RSSSF, but I have also used klisf for Federation Cup/Season Cup results, but I will use them when I update the Soviet Top League later tonight (or edit it in case someone else takes over). I'm thinking the CDKA-CSKA name change should be discussed on their page so I will try adding that as well when I have free time. Thanks, --Palffy 13:58, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Leave the Soviet Top League article for me to finish..I'll be adding full names, among others accordingly.. --Palffy 17:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
