Wikidata Medicine task force

Hi Daniel Mietchen! I'm contacting all the members of the task force because we need some more votes for our properties. If you have about 10 minutes please visit d:Wikidata:Property_proposal/Term. After they have enough votes I can create them and a bot operator can start gathering information.
If you want to help with increasing the visibility of the data-project you can add {{User Wikidata Medicine}} to your user page. All the best! (Watching your talk page and the task force talk page). Ich werde die Userbox auch noch auf dem deutschen Wiki erstellen ;). --Tobias1984 (talk) 16:01, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

I had another look at the current proposals and do not see any which I could unequivocally support at this stage. Will try to provide more details as time permits. -- Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) 22:16, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)

I reviewed the discussion. Based on the comments in the discussion I believe that the close was correct. Rename arguments that want to follow the name of the main article are rather strong. Even if you take the not sure as opposed, the strength of the argument based on past closes seem to support my action by consensus in the discussion. If you think that the consensus was not present in the discussion, then you can take this to WP:DRV for a review, but you have to show that I did not follow consensus or policy. Your other option would be to start a new rename discussion. If you elect to do the latter, then make sure that you point to the old discussion and explain why you think the result should be changed. My close was based solely on the contents of the discussion. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:15, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

I did not participate in the discussion. So the points you are making may be valid but I can not act on them. Feel free to open a new discussion to address the points that were not raised in the discussion that has closed. If there is consensus for a change, it will be renamed again. TemplateData is here

Hey Daniel Mietchen

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:21, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Jisc Wikimedia Ambassador

Daniel, thank you for the kind welcome to the post. Your work has definitely paved the way for the sort of things I will be doing, and I'm glad you've put so much material online including the presentation that you've directed me to. Open access is an issue close to my heart, both in the new job and personally. My interest in the WikiProject is long term and it's just coincidental that I've joined as I get the Jisc post. But yes, I do see an overlap. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 13:15, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

ancestral (gene) reconstruction / resurrection

Hello, I read your comment on the page Talk:Ancestral reconstruction and agreed with you. Now I made a new article Ancestral gene resurrection since the article Ancestral reconstruction didn't mention at all the interesting work of Joseph Thornton. It seems to me that both pages might be merged now maintaining the title of Ancestral gene resurrection, since this is the name Joe Thornton uses. I am on Wikipedia only since one week and don't know yet how to make proposals for merging pages or how to use templates. So I hope you don't mind I contacted you. You might know how to solve the question or give me some link to a page where I can find the right information. Thank you, --Phacelias (talk) 04:54, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 28S ribosomal RNA, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Waldo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
