Hello, Design Archivist, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for helping us build a great free encyclopedia. We have five basic principles, but other than that, we advise that you be bold and edit. If you ever have any questions or need help, feel free to leave a message at the help desk, and other Wikipedia editors will be happy to assist you.

Thanks again and congratulations on becoming a Wikipedian!

P.S. New discussion threads for you will appear at the bottom of this page.

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/James Gardner, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://archiveshub.ac.uk/features/05080301.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Help regarding info box

[edit]

{{help me}} Adding a map to an info box

Please help me with...

Hello, I have been trying to add the following map to the info box on my page:

Location map Brighton central

No matter what I do, I cannot get it to appear. I have tried copying the code from other pages that use the same image but to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Design Archivist (talk) 12:40, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what page are you trying to add it to, but the most common error people make when trying to add images to infoboxes is to include wiki picture markup like [[...]] to the template field. For the most part infoboxes already supply all coding wrapper for an image, and so adding wikicode for images to the template field will break it. Also, many infobox image parameters do not want you to include the namespace "file: or "image". So, next to the image field add "File:Location map Brighton central.png" and if that doesn't work, try just "Location map Brighton central.png", to wit
| image =  File:Location map Brighton central.png

Or:

| image = Location map Brighton central.png

NOT:

| image = [[File:Location map Brighton central.png]]

or include any other code. Of course, caption text for the image is an entirely separate field in the template, usually something like | caption =. If that doesn't work then add back the helpme request and explain that it still did not work. By the way, you can read about how to fill out any particular template at the template page itself. Take the name of whatever template you're looking at, add "Template:" before it and place that in the search field to navigate to it to read its documentation. For example, if you were using infobox artist that you found that another article, to see the template page where the documentation is, you would search for Template:Infobox artist. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Henri Kay Henrion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page MARS. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Information icon Hello, I'm Theroadislong. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Duncan Grant have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 13:43, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Edward Bawden. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 13:45, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Design Archivist. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Draft:Paul Clark (designer), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 17:38, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
