Newton's gravitation
[edit]The image displayed on screen in your Wikipedia page for Newton's law of gravitation is not the same as the one that copies and pastes. A disappointment, since the displayed image is quite elegant and useful for lecturing, but the one that appears (in black, without the formula) is less clear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.166.35.100 (talk) 18:25, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words! The problem with copy/pasting is most likely due to the fact that browsers seem to be a little incompatible (to say the least) with the picture format "SVG"; I have myself encountered weird effects with viewing other SVGs in browsers, and I don't know why this happens or how to solve it. Wikipedia favors (and strongly encourages) editors to use/create an SVG when it is a diagram that is to be presented. The quick (and only) way I know, and therefore suggest, is for you to take a (raw) screenshot of the SVG and paste it into a picture editor, and then save it as a JPG or PNG. direction of earth polar axis
[edit]Hi,
I'm building a simple orbital computer simulation model of the solar system, and I got hold of planetary x,y,z coordinates in the ecliptic plane on some date or other (1940) that I got from NASA's Horizons webpage. This is now working quite well.
Now I want to add a spinning earth into the simulation. But to do so, I need to know which way the earth's N polar axis is pointing. I know it's at 23.5 degrees to the ecliptic, but in which direction?
I know that the earth is wobbling, precessing every 26,000 years or so. And I know that it's pointing roughly at Polaris. But one single angle (the current one) would do. I'm sort of assuming that given that angle, the Greenwich meridian will pass over the Sun at noon each day.
What I'd really like is an x,y,z vector for the earth's axis. Can you point me somewhere that I can find it?
Cheers,
Idlex —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.67.102.25 (talk) 05:43, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, that's cool... I have myself programmed an orbital simulator, but at the opposite magnitude of physics - for atoms and elementary particles. Sadly, I can't myself give you the info you seek, as I'm not that good at astrophysics. But I could suggest that you check out the following resources, which are quite interesting existing simulators which have been around for a while. You can download them, and check their data, as I believe they are very "user-configurable", and might contain the data your after. If you can't find the data, you could contact the programmers and ask them, why not? Here's the simulators which I talk about:
- Planet's Orbits - Link: http://www.alcyone.de/ - I couldn't find the software called "Planet's Orbits", but I checked that link and there seem to be a very ambitious software called "Alcyone Ephemeris 3.4", and from what I gather you will find the data you seek there!
- Open Universe - Link: http://www.openuniverse.org/
- A last resort would be to contact NASA (yes, I am serious, why not?). Hope you find what you're after! Regards, --Dna-Dennis (talk) 00:21, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Holocaust in WWII map
[edit]This is a great map. The Ostland bit showing most of Lithuania has been used in the Holocaust in Lithuania article. I wonder if it would be possible to do one taking a slighly different chunk of the whole map putting Lithuania a bit more central? Fainites barleyscribs 13:12, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! FYI, I did the original large map (WW2-Holocaust-Europe.png); the other smaller maps are derivative works made by other editors, and I've had nothing to do with it. At the moment, I'm not particularly keen to work on new maps (since the large one took a LOT of time to do), but you could always ask the editors who made the derivatives, or even do a derivative yourself. Regards, --Dna-Dennis (talk) 00:20, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- You have a much higher opinion of my computing abilities than I do! Cheers. Fainites barleyscribs 16:54, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Climate Change
[edit]Bad News for Sweden.
Theodor Landscheidt (1927-2004) created some web sites predicting some events based upon the certain astronomical calculations concerning the Jupiter Sun center of mass. He predicted that when the center of mass was outside of the sun, that it would mean weak solar cycles. Here we sit at the begining of cycle 24 and 78 days without a sunspot. Low sunspot activity generally means very cold climate. Dalton / Maunder minimum meaning frozen Thames in England, frozen Hudson in New York, ice skating on the canals of Holland etc.
Ted was a pretty non-sensationalist sort of person. If Ted's name gets to be a household world things will be pretty awful. http://bourabai.narod.ru/landscheidt/new-e.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nanodrv8 (talk • contribs) 05:02, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Old WWII collage
[edit]Do you still have a copy of your old WWII collage somewhere? Personally, I thought it was great. Since Wikipedia apparently doesn't want it, I was thinking of using it on another GFDL page, namely Encyc. Sole Flounder (talk) 19:39, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, and thanks for the kind words! If you still want a copy of my old WW2-montage, please send me an email via my Wikipedia user page User:Dna-webmaster. I will then send you the image (do you want a .png/.jpg or both?) via email. Regards, --Dna-Dennis (talk) 23:00, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Universe article
[edit]Thanks for the backup on the Universe article talk page. I'm not an expert on the subject, but I know enough that most of the people who post on that page make me twitchy. It's nice to occasionally see another sane person hanging around;). Gopher65talk 02:41, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
map - hitler's HQ's in Europe
[edit]The map Hitler-Headquarters-Europe is great, but i've spoted a little mistake: between present time germany and czech republik is no dotted border. so, the sudetenland and southern silesia seem to be still a part of germany. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.177.37.95 (talk) 14:25, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for providing testimony of a dreadful past
[edit]Dennis,
Great pictures of a gruesome past. I'm thankful for posting the files without restrictions. The story of Oradour-sur-Glane can be considered the epitome of human cruelty in times of war. The story of this town is strikingly similar to one which is closer to where I am: the massacre of El Mozote in Morazan, El Salvador, where innocent civilians were murdered by U.S.-backed military during El Salvador's 12-year civil war.
Hopefully, future generations will recognize the evil in both these events and take action to avoid things like these from happening.

Encyclopedia Dramatica Privacy policy violation
[edit]Encyclopedia dramatica, which I have found runs through wikimedia, which is a subsidiary of Wikipedia. Has Put up personal information of mine that has led to online stalking.
I was curious as to what could be done about removing, or changing this information as it is my A/S/L.
Look up the article in question called Krensada on that site.
—Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.93.220.9 (talk) 06:44, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- (I realize that you posted this on DNA's page, but s/he's not responding, so I thought that I might as well.) I emailed you a more detailed response, but suffice to say "we're not Dramatica, and we can't do anything about the things that are posted on that site." I didn't say this in my email, but I'll add that while it's hard to say if any given statement on Dramatica is true or not, if half the quotes that they attribute to you are true, then you did this to yourself:P. If you consistently engage in hate mongering against a particular group of people, eventually they're going to notice you and retaliate. Gopher65talk 16:41, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Woah, took me quite a while to even begin to understand what this post was all about, very confusing. Thanks, Gopher65, for responding! You probably saved me some sanity points there :). Why on earth did Krensada post this on my page in the first place, very strange indeed?! I concur with your (Gopher65) words completely and utterly (even though I disapprove of the alleged harassment and stalking from others on Krensadas behalf). But if some invisible force guided Krensada to select me as a defender, he sure really was pointed to the wrong guy for the job...
- I am a scientist from Sweden who at best have faint tendencies towards the thing that can not be named, so... there you go, might have been the poetry of randomness at work here. And, oh, by the way, I have nothing whatsoever to do with Encyclopedia Dramatica, never heard about it until now. Gopher65, guess we're even now:) Thanks.
- Regards to you all, --Dna-Dennis (talk) 07:07, 16 September 2009 (UTC).
- And oh, Krensada, if you want to avoid being stalked, why the h*ll did you put your emailaddress here for everybody to read? I remove it, on your behalf, since I feel "somewhat" responsible for this very talk page. My advice: Fly low, if you ain't got wings big enough. NOTE: A personal message from me (Dna-Dennis) to fellow Wikipedians
[edit]It seems as if my hiatus from Wikipedia is more than temporary, i.e. I feel I won't be very active in the foreseeable future (no particular reason, just an apparent lack of energy). Therefore I hope that users who post messages here don't feel offended if I don't respond to requests. I hope, trust - and leave it to - other wikipedians to carry on working on and/or altering things I have created for Wikipedia (e.g. various maps, diagrams and images etc). I'll surely check here on my talk page now and then, but please don't expect me to take on any work at the moment; if I feel the urge I will do so, but - it's purely up to me :).
I'll surely participate in some way concerning scientific articles, but probably not concerning history/World War II, sorry... I'm a little tired of it :)
Throughout the years I have talked to and collaborated with many professional and friendly wikipedians, and I am very thankful for this fruitful and interesting experience.
Particular thanks from me goes out to the following fellow wikipedians (chronologically): Shanes, Kirrages, Haber, Grant65, Woogie10w, Parsecboy, Oberiko, Eron and Jd2718. Thank you, all of you!
I'll be back, one way or another. Cheers! --Dna-Dennis (talk) 16:48, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Ask for the possibility to use "WW2-Holocaust-Europe" for an exhibition
[edit]Dear Mr. Dennis! We are preparing an exhibition about the jewish refugeen out of Europe between 1945 and 1948. In this context we found your card about the Concentration Camps and decided, that it would be perfect to use it in the first "chapter" of the exhibition: the time of liberation. Now I want to ask you if we can use the card. Please tell me if this is possible and which text we have to notice under the picture. Thank's a lot! Hello Dna-webmaster, is it possible to extend your map little bit more to the west and indicate also Wolfsschlucht III at Saint-Rimay (near Montoire-sur-le-Loir, where Hitler met Pierre Laval and Maréchal Pétain October 1940) which was of course never in use but construction started 1st Mai 1942. Some remains still existing as well as the tunnel of Saint-Rimay to protect the Führersonderzug.
