@Retrohead, TheQ Editor, and Bentvfan54321: Hey everyone. Some of you probably already know what I'm going to ask, but for the ones that don't, I'm now on my fourth FAC nomination for Falcon's Fury. The other three reviews were all closed due to a lack of responses. I ask, if you can, to just take a few minutes to look over the article and leave a review on the nomination page. Your help is greatly appreciated!--Dom497 (talk) 14:51, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Timor-Leste at the 2008 Summer Olympics
Hello again. I was wondering if you could review Timor-Leste at the 2008 Summer Olympics since you reviewed three of my "at the Summer Olympics" articles. You see, the person who was going to review this is now inactive and it has now been over a month with no comments from anybody. Thanks, good888 (talk) 20:04, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Universal Studios Florida Thing Thing
Hello Dom497. You recently undid my edits to List of Universal Studios Orlando attractions. I stated the correct type of attraction each ride was, because some of the information was incorrect. I would like to know your reason for removing my edits. Zackdaman (talk
- @Zackdaman: Sorry, I only meant to undo the edit where you added a link to Jurassic Park (since the article you linked to was regarding the Hollywood attraction, not Orlando). I have gone ahead and made the appropriate changes--Dom497 (talk) 13:41, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for responding. Zackdaman (talk

Boat Race reviews
The Running Man Barnstar | ||
Hey Dom497, just a quick barnstar to say thanks for the reviews of Boat Race articles you've conducted over the past year. As of this morning, I completed my (initial) goal of ensuing that every Boat Race had, not only its own article, but one that was either of GA or FA status: we now have 158 GAs and 3 FAs that we can all be proud of! It doesn't stop here, for me at least, I'm going to keep up with improving the quality of the GAs and look for more FA opportunities. Plus, there's the small matter of 70 Women's Boat Race articles to get up and running! But thanks again, I couldn't have done it without your help. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:46, 16 April 2015 (UTC) |
@The Rambling Man: Glad to help! Congrats on reaching your goal! :) --Dom497 (talk) 01:13, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia GA review
I just finished my first GA review and, since you' re a mentor, I was wondering if you could take a look to see if it's OK. I put the nomination on hold for several reasons. Any feedback could be really usefull. Thanks. Hansi667 (Neighbor Of The Beast) a penny for your thoughts? 23:15, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Hansi667: Hey there! Great to see that your interested in the GA process. Overall, for a first review, you got the general idea of what is expected in a GA. However, I did notice that more attention needs to be put on the references. Just some pointers that should be addressed for this review and future ones:
- Sheridan kicked off his career..." - Use of these puns/slang or whatever you want to call it should be avoided in GA's. "Sheridan began his career..." is better.
- The lead should contain something from the "Career statistics". Remember, the lead should mention something that has to do with every section in the article.
- For the "Career statistics" section, I don't see why the sub-section "Club" is needed. Also, this is more of a pet-peeve I have, but I always encourage people to put text in every section; rather than having a table. Ask the nominator to include some text that summarizes the table. Maybe something like saying in which year Sheridan scored the most goals?
- "Sheridan has been capped for Republic of Ireland under-21 team, appearing with the team in 2011 UEFA U21 qualifiers: - This doesn't read right. Maybe this: "Sheridan has been capped for the Republic of Ireland under-21 team, appearing with the team in 2011 UEFA U21 qualifiers.". Also what does capped mean?
- "He played 10 times for the side scoring 2 goals. He made his debut against Estonia U21. He scored a goal in the seventh minute on the virtue of which the match ended in a draw." - This can all be merged together. Right now it sounds very broken.
- I have no idea what the Honours section is about. Some text is required to explain.
- Ref 53 "socceryway" should be a capitalized.
- Ref 74 has a different publisher name, yet it is still by Soccerway. Make sure that all references match each other (where appropriate).
- Ref 76, 18, and 23 are URL's. This needs to be addressed!
- Ref 77 is in a foreign language. The language needs to be specified in the reference.
- I cannot access ref 7. Either a new ref needs to be found or the "subscription required" tag is added to the ref. Also, given that this appears to be a news article, there should be a publication date.
- Ref 43 is missing access date. On that note, a few other ref's don't have access dates. Make sure they all have them!
- No need for ref 34 to be in caps. Same with ref 51.
- I just did a quick scan over the refs and clicked on random ones to check. So go over all of them again and double check everything meets reference requirements.
Overall, this review is pretty good (it's way better than my first review!). Just remember that because there are references in the article, that does not mean the article passes 2A and 2B. The references need to formatted correctly. Also, remember that references need to be reliable (this doesn't appear to be a problem in this article; just a friendly reminder). Also, just be careful that the article meets the MoS requirements. If you have any questions, just ask! :) --Dom497 (talk) 14:07, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback.
- A cap is an appearance in sports in Brittish English.
- Honours section stands describes a player's achievements. It is standrandised in Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players. The same applies for the statistics section. This layout is present even in featured articles. Hansi667 (Neighbor Of The Beast) a penny for your thoughts? 16:47, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback.
- I have made the changes on the issues raised. RRD13 দেবজ্যোতি (talk) 10:44, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

List of former and renamed Canada's Wonderland attractions
Hey Dom497, I do have proof regarding where Pharaoh's Eye is. I had contacted Canada's Wonderland's General Manager, Norm Pirtovshek via Twitter. By the way, I was the one who had posted the information on CWMania. Here is the conversation I had on Twitter with Norm. Best Regards, JohnBrooksjJohnbrooksj (talk) 23:14, 1 June 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnbrooksj (talk • contribs) 23:09, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
List of former and renamed Canada's Wonderland attractions Continued
Hello Dom497, I am responding back to the response you left on my talk page. I realize that Twitter can be quite unreliable as it is open to anyone. I tried emailing the park but, you know how that is, they hardly get back when I had emailed them during the off-season or they never get back to me because the staff can't find an answer. If I do ever happen to get a hold of or meet up with Norm Pirtovshek and ask him where Pharaoh's Eye Currently is, then can I add where it was sold to? It probably is him on Twitter as it took him a few days to get back to me but, I agree, I can't be too sure of that as it could have been someone else he works with or someone who just isn't the General Manager or related to the park at all. By the way, I am Johnlloyd on CWMania and have been a member since May 2012. I am a huge fan of Canada's Wonderland especially when it comes to history of the park as you've probably have seen my findings shared under the topic "Retro Wonderland". I do look forward to contributing information about Canada's Wonderland with you and hope to improve the Canada's Wonderland Wikipedia Pages as time passes.
Best Regards,
JohnBrooksjJohnbrooksj (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 23:02, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Johnbrooksj: If you meet up with Norm you better record him saying it's his twitter!!!! To be completely honest, I wouldn't say "probably", I would say it is him, but our knowledge isn't good enough for Wiki. I've actually enjoyed the Retro Wonderland forum...pretty interesting stuff! I'm constantly on a search for finding leaks of the 2016/2017 project (I have some techniques (that are legal!) that I used to leak a photo of WMG. I also managed to get into the Leviathan website a few days before the photos leaked out but I wasn't a member on any forums at that time!), so unless Wonderland hasn't learned their lesson, you can bet on me finding something before an announcement (yep, I'm that guy that likes spoiling things....it's a bad trait of mine)! I think my highlight was somehow getting Matcom to tell me that there was a drop track on WMG (but on CW Mania I just said a 30-foot drop ;) ). So what do you think 2016 or 2017....I'm on the 2016 boat.
But back to Wiki, I look forward with working to you as well, just remember that you can add whatever you want so long as you got a reliable source to prove it. :) --Dom497 (talk) 23:43, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Stalled GA
Hi, I think it's clear the maskirovka GA process is stalled because the reviewer doesn't understand the process (he's never done one before). It needs to be moved on. Since there is no mechanism to hand over to another reviewer (which is what would be best), pass or fail are the only options. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:42, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Chiswick Chap: Well, you do have some options. If you can find another use who would be willing to continue or start the review over that can be done on the same review page (so you don't need to renominate); it's like asking for a second opinion. The other option is to place the review status as "Second Opinion" and add a note saying that a new reviewer is needed. The third option, is as you said, to close the review and renominate (anyone can do this, including you). By the way, the GA CUP is starting a few weeks, so if you do renominate, you may not have to wait a long as you usually do!--Dom497 (talk) 11:26, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, that's helpful, thank you. Let's give it a go. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:06, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks, and good luck with the rest of the exams. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:23, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hope they went well! I've done what you asked on Maskirovka, so over to you. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:22, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- I've replied on the GA page, but just wanted to say I can quite understand if you're leery of complex mil: hist: - but so am I, and this article isn't really about that at all, just a simple topic in camouflage, with the history of its development, which I suspect you are well able to review. I'd of course be really grateful if we could get the GA completed together (I've been waiting a bit!); but if it's not you, then you're totally forgiven. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:20, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Is this a copyright violation?
In my GA review, I was checking the copyvios status of the article (Angry Video Game Nerd) and it said 77.3% chance of a violation. Now, I'm unsure whether this is because people copy Wikipedia or if the writer copied the website. Could you please give me a second opinion on it? The review is located at: Talk:Angry Video Game Nerd/GA1--Anarchyte 11:34, 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Anarchyte: I never even knew the copyvio tool existed; going to make my life a lot easier now! But it looks like, for the most part, only words/pairs of words are highlighted as copyvios, not entire sentences. However, there are some full sentences that are highlighted, so I would suggest asking the nominator to reword those sections. Other than that, the small blocks of words should be fine. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have! :) --Dom497 (talk) 00:12, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Incorrect notification by bot
Hi Dom497, I recently listed Kill the Irishman as a good article. It failed its previous review, but passed mine. Legobot notified the nominator that the article had failed despite passing. Did I do something wrong in the process that caused the wrong notification to go out? Wugapodes (talk) 19:53, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Wugapodes: Probably because there is both a failed GAN and pass GAN template on the talk page. The bot probably can't figure it out. The Article History template should be used in this case..--Dom497 (talk) 21:18, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

GA Cup - confusion
Dear Dom497, I gotta say I am a little confused about a rating you gave me in the GA Cup. Namely the one for José Luis Chilavert. While I realize that the rules state that you should give the nominator time to adress issues, I followed GA rules when I failed it after a thourough review since I felt there was no way it could be brought up to scratch in seven days time. Anyway, I accept if you follow the GA Cup rules strictly here, I simply assumed a fail after a thorough review was OK since User:JohnGormleyJG received points for this review (also not put on hold!), which I would claim was an article that should have been put on hold, since it was in a better shape than the Chilavert one. This applies even more to this yet unrated review. I don't wanna be a tattletale, but I'd appreciate it if there was consistency in the way the reviews are rated. Regards, Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:30, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Zwerg Nase: This is simply confusion among the judges (yay....). The Cube review should not receive any points; the same goes with the other review you linked. Per the GA Cup quick fail rule b), no points will be awarded if, "the reviewer does not allow the nominator to address any issue" (so it's not really that you should give the nominator time, it's that you need to give the nominator time. There should be no rush in completely a GAN (since reviews carry over into the next round if they are not completed by July 29) so that's why this rule exists in the first place). I'm really sorry about the confusion.--Dom497 (talk) 12:36, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- Fair enough. But well, I don't regret not putting that article on hold, even if it gave me no points. Nominating that was really quite an insult to the GA criteria. Have a nice day! Zwerg Nase (talk) 12:43, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Zwerg Nase: I agree that it's an insult. But the rule exists just because we don't want people to start rubber stamping reviews to gain points (we had this issue last year which is why we added the rule). Have a great day as well! :) --Dom497 (talk) 12:45, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

GA Cup start date
Thanks for your hard work in judging the GA cup! I noticed that you disqualified two submissions saying that they were started before the GA cup began. Because of the notice on my talk page I was of the understanding that I could start reviewing when it was July 1st under UTC time, but I realise the official rules were vague on that. While I'd love more fake internet points, you don't have to give them another review, but if you're helping write the rules next year it would be good to be more clear about whether the start time is in UTC or local. Wugapodes (talk) 18:16, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- Wow, my bad. I have wiki set to convert all time-stamps/edit times to my local time which is EST (-4 hours). So you actually started the reviews after the Cup began but on my end it said it was still June 39. Sorry about that.--Dom497 (talk) 22:48, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- I assumed it was something like that. It's no problem. Thanks! Wugapodes (talk) 23:31, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
GA Cup
Hello Dom497,
I am just a bit curious as regards to some of my reviews. I noticed I never received points for 3 of my reviews. You said “No time given for the reviewer to address the issues”, I am not quite sure in context what that means.I also noticed my scoring went down from 33 to 18, This was removing my previous points that another judge awarded me for The Cube , Are you allowed to remove points after they have been awarded? Thanks for reading and thanks for all your work on the GA Cup so far.
Thank You,
-- JohnGormleyJG (✉) 08:53, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
- @JohnGormleyJG: So here is what happened. For The Cube, MrWooHoo awarded points by accident. As part of the GA Cup rules, you must give the nominator a chance to address any issues you bring up (aka quick failing is not allowed). So in the fairness of all other participants, I revoked the points. For Goodbye to Language, again, it doesn't appear that you gave the nominator any chance to improve the article. For the third article, I would assume Figureskatingfan declined it because you did not leave any comments for improvements (also part of the GA Cup) but you may want to check with her just to be sure.--Dom497 (talk) 12:52, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Your opinion on WP:WAF with regards to pro wrestling
I'm reviewing Bullet Club and I'm unsure of how, if at all, WP:Writing about fiction would apply to professional wrestling. The review is here. I also realize you're getting asked a lot of questions about the GA cup so if you want to notify another experienced GA member, that's fine. Wugapodes (talk) 04:14, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Wugapodes: IMO, wrestling is non-fiction; since it is not made up (for the most part; if it is scripted I still count that as non-fiction). In the WWE it happens right there and then, it's not "imaginary".--Dom497 (talk) 01:03, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

I am trying to make Tom Lehrer a good article and would appreciate it if you could write a review on it. 79.179.3.187 (talk) 16:10, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
- Well, just upon scanning the article, I see that there are un-cited statements, which would be a quick-fail so I suggest you address those issues.--Dom497 (talk) 00:33, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
Greetings, Dom497. 79.179.3.187 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) GAN'ed Tom Lehrer, then made several edits to your talk, then two non-constructive edits to Robert Funaro. Per the discussion at Talk:Tom Lehrer, I'm considering deleting the GAN as a not-serious drive-by. Care to weigh in? —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 🖖 21:18, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Time to withdraw
Hello Dom. I am going to be really busy in the next few months, so I would like to withdraw from the GA Cup. Fingers-crossed you will be able to get someone to replace me. Thanks. Good888 (talk) 12:34, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
