Conflict of interest editing
[edit]Hello, Dws1d. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page David Williamson Shaffer, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 22:39, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
Reply
[edit]Thanks for your message on my talk page, and thanks for understanding the potential conflict of interest issues. Even though the edits you made might seem minor, we would ask that you do not directly edit the article about yourself. Instead you can use the Template:Request edit on the talk page to suggest any changes or improvements, which means they will be reviewed by a neutral editor before being made. This process of review is one key step to dealing with conflicts of interest. The other is a declaration. There are numerous ways for you to do this, or if you are happy for me to do so, I can add a note on the talk page as well saying that you are a Template:Connected contributor, which will also serve as a reminder that you will not be editing the article directly, and then I can remove the note from the article itself. Let me know - you can reply here on your talk page if its easier. Thanks, Melcous (talk) 22:07, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
